Hello everyone. I am a paraplegic with poor circulation in my lower
legs. I have a pressure ulcer on the knuckle of the middle toe of my
left foot, and one on the heel that are really worrying me. I've had
it for about 3 years and it seems to be getting worse. They are each
about 3/4 inch in diameter. I have been to the wound clinic, and they
debrided the area and prescribed me Xenaderm and Bactriban. I clean
the area with saline (contact lens solution), dry it, apply the
ointment (xenaderm at night, bactriban in the morning), and put a
band-aid over it. I am also wearing special orthotic shoes to keep
pressure off of it. No luck so far.
Also, they prescribed me Regranex, which I am told works wonders, but
my insurance won't cover it because I am not diabetic.
The wound center has me scheduled for appointments once a month. Is
this often enough? Should I pressure them to see me more often to keep
a closer eye on it? Any advice at all would be GREATLY appreciated. I
am so worried I'm going to lose my foot.
Thanks so much in advance.

May I ask a few questions?
How old are you? Are there other conditions besides the paraplegia and the
ulcer that are relevant to your health? Have you seen other doctors about
this?

I wish I could help you. I am a advanced diabetic and ave many
problems. I can't advise you because I do not know and I can't
see you or examine your problem.
While not perfect the doctors are the best trained to deal
with most problems. Too many offer advice without any
personal contact with you.
Second opinions seem to be the way to go.
I do have several problems and I have to accept my status.
As best I can, I intend to live and not worry.
Hunt and find a doc that you can deal with.
All docs are not equal. .
Good luck.
