Cinnamon: An old study (December 2003) but an article just appeared in our
local newspaper. Not sure why 2 years later or if there has been any
further studies. After reading the study I've decided to do my own over the
next 30 days.
The study is here (pdf)...

or here (text)...

Some info (in my sig, -I don't use it often) compares a 30 day result after
taking Zocor.

Cinnamon raised my BG very badly. And after taking it for a few weeks, the
taste cinnamon stayed in my mouth all the time. I didn't like that. My Dr.
told me to stop taking it.

Interesting, about the BG. It's supposed to do the exact opposite. Agree
with you on the taste, I picked up some capsules at a local health store.

Hi Dave,
I've been taking cinamon for the last 19 months since the diagnose.
I've been taking it to replace the condensed milk that I put in my
morning coffee. I use 1 teaspoon of cinamon powder with a big mug of
coffee. I'm not sure how many grams of cinamon in that 1 teaspoon and
how many capsuls of cinamon do you have to take to get 1 to 6 grams of
cinamon. My glucose numbers have been steady in the normal range so far
(knock the wood). I manage my glucose with diet and exercise only. Take
care.

I decided on 1.5 grams per day. That would be three 500 mg capsules. No
rocket science here as the bottle I bought has 90 capsules so 3 a day will
give me a 30 day test and if I have them with my meals I don't forget them.
Also the study doesn't suggest that anything over a gram is any better than
a gram.
Looking at the capsules I suspect 3 of them would fill a teaspoon so I think
you are getting 1.5 grams a day that way... just my guess. I tried it in
coffee too. Not all that bad and probably cheaper than buying the capsules.
When I decided to do this I just hit the nearest health store and paid $20
for the 90 capsules. If it works I'll shop around. Zocor on the other hand
is $147 for 90 pills.

I love coffee. Last couple of years I've bought cinnamon sticks (about
$4 in grocery) and use a piece of one in a cup before I add instant
and hot water. Then a couple of Sweet&Los, or Equals, or whatever and
some dry non-fat milk.
This horrifies some of the group!
Who cares?
Swedes are weaned onto coffee. My BGs are generally good and I don't
know (nor care) whether cinnamon helps a little. I do know it doesn't
hurt - and I like it. Just becase we're diabetic we don't have to
refuse everything we like or even test it all. We all KNOW cake and
pies are generally no-no. But a small piece of pumpkin at
Thanksgiving? SMALL. SMALL. There may be a few who can't even have
that but most of us can indulge occasionally.
Life is not all test, test, test.
