Ohh the joy's of becoming old and decrepit;o(

I've got a (for want of a better explanation) patch on me shin. It's gone
sort of shiny and the hair has gone from there. It feels like a blister does
and is stinging all the time. Now I know I've got a bit of PN down there and
in me tootsies but that feels different to this and its been getting worse
over the last month. Maybe the buggers going to drop off, me leg that is!

I'll be seeing the doc next week, after the nice lady has re-shaped me toe
nails, but in the mean time, has anyone else had anything like this. Any
clues as to what's gone wrong this time?

I got those joys too. My Ma used to say when you are young and energetic,
you are not experienced enough to use the energy correctly, but when you are
old enough to have the necessary experience, the energy has gone. C'est la
vie! (That French bit is just so you know I'm edificated).

You give a reasonably accurate explanation of the beginning of Scleredema
Diabeticorum. If you stick that in Google I expect you would find summat
useful.

Got a similar problem but not caused by the beast, but by the impolite
person who drove the car that hit Al that got hurled into a brick wall that
damaged Al's leg and head. Sounds like the house Jack built, don't it?

Now some people are cute and sweet

But I'm someone who's round the bend
  And marvellously mental.

Thanks for that Al!

However, seeing as it only seems to effect the upper half of the torso I
don't think it will be that. Unless of course I'm breaking new medical
ground and knowing my luck that might just be the case. Still at least its
only 'rarely' fatal;o)

Phil, if it turns out to be fatal in your case, be sure to let us know so we
can avoid it will you? :-)

Sorry I can't offer any suggestions, but it's a new one on moi.

I'm off to the chiropodist this afternoon (part of the DM clinic), so
hopefully she will get me in to see the doc. Then, hopefully, he will have
some idea of what the hells gone wrong this time. Place your bet now for the
fags getting the blame though:o(

No bet, the odds are too short. It WILL be blamed.

A pal of mine (not a DM-er) went to the quacks YEARS ago wth "restless legs"
and she told him it was the fags. "Stop smoking or lose a leg" she told him.
HE shot right back "Can I choose WHICH leg, becasue I fnd my right leg much
more useful":-))

Years later, he's still in full posession of all his legs and he still
smokes 60 a day.

Well, not a mention of the old fags!

Has given me this aesthetic cream Axsian to rub into it (me leg that is
before the comments come flying forth). So we will see how it goes:o)

Philip Martin.

Mind you, aesthetic cream, hmmmmmm.

Not the best news Phil, but at least it's "sort of" a dx.

Has the skin gone brown or yellow?  If so, check out Necrobiosis Lipoidica
Diabeticorum.  Fairly harmless apart from the slight risk of getting it
knocked and ulcers developing and then infection.  I have 4 holes in my leg
for this reason at the moment.  Most common is ocurrence on the shin.

Only occurs in 1% of people with DM apparently

Hi Phil,
Although 1% of DMers get necrobiosis, 50% of necrobiosis sufferers are
diabetic.

http://www.gpnotebook.co.uk/cache/382730251.htm

That there gpnotebook is a very useful resource. Maggie B (my DSN) says the
brown/yellow discolouration is when it is advancing, but when it is starting
it might be white. But of course it might be summat else. Ask your doc, or
ask for a referral to a skin specialist (dermatologist??) I think.

Please let us know how you go on with it.
