Blood test Strips

I'm currently in the middle of a very long winded arguement with my local
clinic over the provision of medisense  g2 electrodes.

I've just been in touch with my endocrinologist and also my local DSN and
have  them writing me a letter backing up why i want strips and why i need
more than one pack of 50 at once.

I've also been in touch with our practice manager and been through ALL
avenues of why i need them and she is still not convinced as i'm "just the
patient". She and the rest of those backwards gibbons down there seem to
think that on a basal / bolus regieme it's s acceptable to test 2 times  day
and not every day. I haven't told them i've got the letter form the hospital
and am due back in on monday to see the practice manager and the head Gp.
Things as they say will be interesting. The only winner will be me. I'm now
of the mind that i'm not bothered whos nose i put out of joint to get what i
need to run my diabetes effectively.

I'm actually looking forward to going in there and bringing them all forward
ten years in diabetes management, something that they seem unable to do
courtesy of the NHS. If i hear one of them state, "it's not our fault we're
ill informed" i will turn blue and have an apopleptic fit anda ask them in
very heated tones exactly how they think that makes them fit or able to tell
me what i can or cannot have.

My single biggest irritation with diabetes is the sheer ammount of time that
you have to waste down the clinic, or at the surgery picking up ream after
ream of prescription. What i'd like to see is a facility where once you and
your consultant are happy with your management you can get 3 months worth of
stuff at a time and  bugger off and enjoy the best part of your life.

Anyway moan off, will see how monday goes.

Rgds.

There's no reason why they shouldn't do just that.  I get a 3-monthly
prescription from my local GP and I don't even have to go in to get it
repeated - the local Co-Op pharmacy handles that every 3 months and calls
me when it's ready.

Fester, hope it all goes well, mate. Don't stand for any of their sh.t. If
it does not work out, give Diabetes UK a call. They will have access to
phone nos of patient action/support groups in your region who'll take it up
and help prepare letters. I still feel mighty pee'ed off when I hear things
like that.

My GPs are really very good. They never complain about anything, and I
recently asked for 400 test strips as a repeat prescription and they gave
it. About 3 months back, they give a scrip for 800! My guys are really
super.

There is some very good information on the DUK web site about what to do if
your GP is restricting your use of strips.
The documemt is dated August 2003, so is fairly new.  It seems that a lot of
people are having problems.  I feel I am getting angrier and angrier!!

Oh worry ye not, fester is armed to the teeth with knowledge and sharp
tongue. Woe betide anyone of those "professionals" who thinks they know
what's right and wrong. If i can't get what i want i'll create such a holy
stink with the hospital and clinic that they'll wish they'd just said yes in
the first place. I'm horrid me ;) 2 years running the helpdesk / callcentre
in a pc world store taught me it all:)
