Novofine needle shortage?

Hi all

I went to pick up a repeat prescription today for 6mm Novofine needles to be
told that they were having issues at Nordisk and if I wanted I could have
8mm ones instead as these are more suited to adults anyway. I love the way a
pharmacist thinks he can advise me on diabetes treatment and the best way to
manage my injections but that aside has anyone else come across this
shortage or am I being talked rubbish to?

Cheers

I have noticed that the last couple of times I have had to wait a day or
so for my box of needles to arrive. I don't use Novofine as the generics
are more than adequate, and 8mm is indeed the size that most adults seem
to be prescribed.

Novo is a drug company firstly, and I would not be at all surprised if
they just repackage a product like Novofine needles from a
subcontractor. I can't see them having a production plant for steel
items. It could indeed be a production issue, which then causes knock-on
effects for othe suppliers such as Owen Mumford or BD.

I have heard in the past that 6mm is the size that would be prescribed
for kids, and 8mm is more suited to adults with their thicker skin. When
I started stabbing I asked about needle size and that's what I recall
being told, the 8mm size is the best for average adults.

Depends on the prescriber, I found.  The nurse prescribed 8 mm needles
for the Lantus and the doc prescribed 6 mm for the Aspart, so I'm now
stuck with two boxes of the things to find room for.  The threads are
different as well, the 8mm won't screw on to the NovoPen I use.

Hi!

Try this one, that´s the pen needle I am using. I like it very much:

NovoFine 0,25/0,23 x 6mm (superflow)

Just a thought, can you not stick a 8mm needle in yourself with a bit
(2mm) sticking out. Choice of needle when I started 1/2" or 3/4" in 2
different fittings Luer and Record.
I still use needles diagonally into the skin to take up some of the
needle length.
