I haven't stuck my head in here for a while as I've been away and my
diabetes has been pretty much under control but I have a story I know a few
of you (Beav, Ratty. Fester etc) may find interesting.

Helped out at a Scouts xmas carol service before xmas putting in the sound
system for them. Got chatting to an old family friend to find she has just
been diagnosed type 2 and was not having a good time. I was telling her
places to go to for information and I suggested this group. She had a look
of horror on her face and proceeded to reel off names of the "awful" people
she had encountered online that had traumatised her so much she wouldn't go
back. Some of the names were very familiar - Mack, Ted Rosenburg, Sleepyman
etc. I started laughing and she couldn't understand why but most of you
probably will get the source of my amusement.

Anyway, I told her to add a UK to the end of the group and try again. She's
been reading here (although not posting much) since then, I saw her today
and she did nothing but rave about the people on here and how much help
they've been. She's still having a bad time with her diabetes but she's a
lot more confident about the future now and knows she has an excellent
resource she can turn to when she needs it.

So anyway, thanks for that guys and showing the septics how a support group
should work.

I'll be popping my head in from time to time but for now I'm off to the
Caribbean for 3 months.

Cheers,

Phildo

I understand perfectly how she feels.  These three guys listed above did a
number on me, too, and hurt me so badly that I stayed away from all groups
for a year.  I eventually tried the UK group, which is better.

I don't know what those guys think they are proving when they go into that
kind of pitbull mode.  This is help?????

The Caribbean for 3 months?  I thought you were a nice poster.  And here you
go telling be about three months in the warm sun while I am freezing here in
Paris.  That's cruel:-)

This is "Muck and Rosengurg" help for sure. If "it's" not done their way,
it's wrong.

Yeah, but it stops bike tyres wearing out too quickly, this "cool"
weather:-)

They run that newsgroup as their own private ego trip. They are not there to
help people, they are there because they can feel important, something
obviously lacking in their sad little lives. I wreaked merry havoc there for
a while to try and teach them a lesson and would have continued if I didn't
have to go away to work. The worst thing is most of the regulars just sit by
and let it happen like good little sheep because they are too damn scared to
stand up for themselves and tell the bullies they are out of order. This is
the only decent diabetes help group on the net which is a pity as things
like US healthcare don't get discussed on here and thousands os US diabetics
are missing out on the help they so badly need. I wonder how that makes the
ringleaders feel - knowing they are depriving literally thousands of
diabetics of the information that could save their lives?

It's only work. I work for P&O on one of their cruise ships. Well, I say
work, most of the time I am lazing on sunny beaches or exploring beautiful
islands but still have to work for a couple of hours each day. Laundry,
cleaning, food etc are all taken care of, pay is good and I do hardly any
work. Life can be a real bitch sometimes  ;-)

At least it was sunny here today, though my hands were like two icecubes
when I went out to walk this morning.  I am grateful for small favors.  The
gray soup we usually get is so depressing.

On the other hand, when you tell me "it's only work", and "most of the time
I am lazing on sunny beaches or exploring beautiful islands, but still have
to work for a couple of hours each day", all I can say is "hate, hate,
hate":-)

You should go back to the US group. You would fit right in with an attitude
like that. ;-)

ello you

I don't spend a lot of time in here myself these days, got a few other
things going on and this place is now busy enough not to need my input.
So it's a sort of luxury to sit back and watch/read.

Sorry your mate had a bad experience. Get her to say hello when she's
feeling up to having a go, she won't get savaged in here or preached at
by religious loony fake doctors. And enjoy your time away, just be
careful of them hurricane things!

You mean like this one? My ex-girlfriend was on this ship at the time by the
way.

Me, I'm more worried about the D&V outbreaks we get with norovirus. I was
one of the first to go down when Oceana had an outbreak last year and it
wasn't nice. Made muchfartin look like a walk in the park. It got so bad P&O
were considering renaming the ship -
