Looks excellent on the face of it.
Be interesting to get views from anyone who has been on it, before
asking Eastern Wakefield PCT to get their fingers out and do something
similar ;)

Download the pdfs and post them on to your respective PCTs and ask why they
have not implemented them by now, they have had the same time as other PCTs
that have.
Also ask them if they even know about Diabetes National Service Framework.
If they bother to reply please post there responses up here.

Given their interest in the NSF implementation, The DUK Campaigners
network might be interested in a copy of replies as well.

Its mainly just pious vacuities and they are given themselves plenty of
time - another 8 years to 2013 - to get comparatively simple stuff like
educational programmes into operation.
New Labour twaddle overall, saying you are going to do basic stuff and
presenting it in hi-falutin phrases as if it was marvellous and wonderful,
but not getting on and INVESTING MONEY in the things that really need doing.

At least it is more than has ever been done before by any party!
Do not totally agree with Iraq, I do not agree with the stupid laws this
government has brought in, I was well pleased when Blair got a kick up the
backside over 90 day law.
But and it is a big but, this government has shaken the care of diabetes up,
it may be taking a prolonged time but the destruction took over 15 years, so
you should not complain. I have seen the deterioration first by the
arrogance of doctors then by too much ignorance by the same in the belief of
research that was faulty not to mention interference by previous governments
of different colours (still happening thorough a body called PCTs put in
place by a government to save money)
Look what happened overnight when the minister got herself involved with the
cancer drug the money grabbing PCT changed from can not have it because
there is not enough research to yes she can have it. What could it do? kill
her on the cheep rather than spend to find if it works, pity they did not do
that with other drugs could have saved billions but I admit we could have a
shortage of insulin by now.
By working with that department you may get results on the decision NICE are
supposed to have reached on test strips and T2s.
Whingeing will gain nothing.

Print that out and give it to your respective PCTs. The villians in this
battle are not the government or the NHS but the PCTs that are trying to
save money now, also the respective doctor/practices who take advantage of
there local PCT doctrenation. There are doctors who ignore PCTs, there are
PCTs who save in other areas and do not limit testing as other PCTs do.
Only by makeing the public and government aware of the situation will you
get change. So do some thing about it like Nicky has, I am trying but many
are needed and I am in a poor position to fight for others because
a/ I am T1 and I am just fudged over
b/ were I live the PCT does not restrict anywere like others do, I may only
be alowed 50 strips per script but I can have as many scripts in a month as
I want, they are just a phone call away.
So the best ones to do anything are T2s in the areas were restricting is
happening. Hammer the PCTs and try and get them to operate as the guidelines
are written now. If you wait for others then you are giveing the PCTs fodder
to go to NICE with (that is probable were NICE is gathering its findings
from). The DNSF is trying to help but it has many prejudices to counter. Old
school doctors who still think they are god and younger practiononers who do
not have the knowledge, so work from research that says urine is as good as
blood testing for T2 because it is cheeper, the PCTs who's only perpose is
to save money even when common sence says different and politics many of the
doubters doubt for political reasons only because the present goverment set
up the DNSF they want to shoot it down just for that reason.
My loyalty comes from the thing I have lived 50 years with and I want it
changed,

I think they had the misfortune to appear around the time DESMOND was being
set up, and are therefore seen as a competitor. I rather like it,
particularly the low-GI carb advice and the supermarket group tour : ) I
also like the emphasis on experimentation to find what's right for you. This
kind of approach would work for me, I think. The only slight gripe is that
they've hidden exercise under weight management; I think it could be more
prominent.
Nicky.
