Sleepyman - 02 Feb 2005 17:43 GMT Hi c, I know you have been very anti-seroquel. My shrink just prescribed it for me (100 mg) We did a two week trial when I was using 300 mg Trazodone, 40 mg Klonapin, and my usual 1200mg of Neurontin to get to sleep. I also have been slightly manic quick cycle, though way way less than before Lamictal. BG seems to be jumping higher, but I just use more insulin. I had dropped 10lbs since the holidays, and have put back 6 in a week. I was a complete zombie for the first two days, feeling like I was zonked on pheno barb, tuinal, seconal etc. type buzz. Wouldn't drive or leave the house, but I kinda liked the buzz after all these years of straightness. (LOL) If I can only find a non narcotic drug with opium type side effects I would be a happy boy. Now that I have been on the seroquel, Sleepy feels like a very dull bland boy. I am hoping it starts to improve as my shrink says it will, otherwise...... Anyones (other than the usual trolls), opinions welcome. Yes I am nutz and not insulted by those who try to denigrate me because of it. Lot's of nutz here, at least I'm certified. LOL

Weird, sometimes I feel dopey, others fine. My shrink is trying to change my circadian rhythms. After working nights so long where I went to bed at 5-6 AM, and got up round 2. for such a long time, I am still in the habit. Combine all that with the apnea, and everything else, it's a mess. I never figured out when I have my liver dump even. Do I get it about the same time as everyone else, or do I get it an hour or so before I get up? So el shrinko has me trying a new routine. He wants to make sure I have my 100mg Provigil at 8 am, so I am to set the alarm to make sure I take it then. He wants me to take my 200mg Wellbutrin twice a day 6 hours apart (I was taking 12) at noon and 6, and to take my 100mg Seroquel at 6 with the Wellbutrin. And I have my 150mg x2 Lamictal. I still have my 200mg Zoloft @8, my 900mg Neurontin @ 8 and noon, and 1200mg @ midnight. 3-100 mg of Klonapin as needed, but not at bedtime anymore. No more Trazodone either. People wonder why I'm crazy. Just trying to keep up with my schedule is enough to send one over the edge! Never mind the rest of the drugs for my assorted and sundry ailments and diseases.
I started the new routine yesterday. Conked out at the puter between 8-9 I guess. I know I wanted to watch the Great Race at 9, and NYPD Blue at 10, and don't remember seeing either. Woke up at 2:30am in a daze, but forced my way through the haze and read some postings here till about 5 am when I went to bed. (broke the rules and took my Provigil then) Woke up at 10:30 AM and actually felt refreshed! Of course around 2:30 I really needed a nap. I am not supposed to take any naps after 1pm plus I was waiting for my doc to call with some important blood results, so a nap was out of the question. Good news on the bloodwork. My Creatinine had jumped to 1.8,on my quarterly blood tests, and we retested less than a week after the original test. About 2 weeks before I had quit Naproxen, as it had outlived it purpose, and it sure showed a difference, I am back down to 1.1. on the high side of normal lab range, but still in it. So a new day on the experiment. I have noticed a jump in my BG that I am whacking with Humalog, and in the two week trial I gained back 6 of the ten pounds I had worked off after the holidays, so I am not happy there. The crap must be wearing off, as I am a bit manic. You can always tell because I write these tomes. Sorry about that!

i take my seroquel at 6pm and i'm OUT by 8:30 pm at night.... i wake up at 2am and roll over and try to go back to sleep........ that used to be impossible, but lately it's working (of course.. 2 nights ago i gave up at 3:15 and just got up for the day).......... and like you i'm NOT allowed to sleep during the day at all
my average time to wake up is 10 or 10:30 as well... that's what i call the med 'hangover' because i can't wake up at 7:30 or 8 am
i just wish i had a fixed "normal" sleep schedule too
sigh

The doc wants me to take them 6 hours apart depending on what time I get up. I try to get up by noon, so it is noon and 6, of course if I get up later... or earlier the sched changes.
I wake up about 3-6 hours after I fall asleep. Wish I went to bed when I woke up, but I spend a 3-5hours on the puter, then go hook up my bi-pap and try to sleep
How are things going with your apnea? It doesn't sound like it is going well.

Loretta Eisenberg - 02 Feb 2005 22:57 GMT Sleepy, the only thing I can tell you about Seroquel, is that I broke out in a rash from head to toe.

I seem to be immune to most side effects except a couple, or I am so doped up I don't notice. The side effects I always seem to get though, are Gastro-Intestinal in nature, plus weight gain.

Colleen - 03 Feb 2005 00:27 GMT I've been really busy painting the past few weeks. I had one show in Jan and another coming up on the 12th.
Congratulations on your certification. I received mine last week. (Disability release form pdoc.)
Re Seroquel. For mania, it works for most people. I'm really sensitive to it so a little goes a long way with me. I absolutely HATE the weight gain. I think I did like twenty pounds in one month and about 50 over the course of a year. I also took Zyprexa which is even worse for weight gain. I'm avoiding that class of drug if possible. It's ties to diabetes are just too nasty. Keep a real close eye on your blood sugar while taking it. I still think it and Zyprexa triggered my diabetes.
I don't know what you're going to do for your sleep problem. I take Ambien and it works like a charm. Knocks me out for 6-8 hours and I wake up without the drug hangover. The problem is a lot of docs won't prescribe it long term. My pdoc says prescribing for psych patients is different that other patients. We sometimes need these meds to function in spite of their tendency to cause a physical dependance. (Dependance is WAYYY different than addiction.)
You are on quite a cocktail. It reminds me of what I used to have to do. I was on 14 different meds at once. All of them for psych. Now I just take the three. I use Trileptal (an anticonvulsant) for a mood stabilizer and it is the best med I've ever taken for mania/hypomania. I can really, really tell when I miss a couple doses. I like it a lot better than Neurotin which didn't do much of anything for me.
Hope you do better soon. I'm lurking off and on but not posting much right now. I'll post the pix of my new paintings as soon as I can get some decent daylight. It's not too common in Wisc. this time of year.

I whacked it pretty good with insulin, and it took fore ever to bring it down. My FBGs have been lousy. I am going to have to up my long lasting insulin (Lantus) to about 55u, which of course means more weight gain leading to more IR leading to more insulin. The vicious cycle continues.

I've taken Ambien for 3 sleep studies and it did a pretty good job. My neuro wrote me a script, and the state refused me authorization. But 3 hours almost exactly from the time I take the seroquel, bada boom, I am out like a light in my chair. I am not taking it at 6pm anymore. I'm gonna move it up to 10, and hopefully I will go to bed after Jimmy Kimmel ends. Before it hits me.

But I have been taking 3x1200mg for years. So instead of the 2 1200/doses daytime, he has cut it down to 900mg per dose. Whoop de do. If it were up to me I would just take 1200mg at bedtime.

I hope you get some light up there in Wisc. We share a lot of weather, but it usually gets warmer here as the steering currents bring it closer to warmer ocean water and you know the rest. Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow! Had 4 ft on the ground, but we have had a couple of 34-35 deg days so some of it is melting. Getting freezing rain right now. A big Canadian High, and you should get all the sun you can stand. Good to hear things are going well. Love your paintings and hope to see them soon. Some of them get in my head (not in a bad way)

It's called "Pea Slurp". She's a waitress serving the guy this green stuff that is pea slurp. Green with toxic bubbles popping in it. I'm having a ball doing it. Isn't hypomania great!!!!!
