A year ago I was 300 lbs (5'7") and was shooting 70u shots
of humalog 7-8 times a day and 70u shots of lantus twice a
day. Still, my BG's were hanging above 300 most of the time......

Then, I got a new Dr. who sent me to an endo who showed
me the error of my ways. Now, I eat less than 30g of carbs
a day while keeping the fat intake down and eating lots of
whole fresh fruit and veggies. I take 1 tbsp flaxseed/day.

I'm riding my bike 2-3 miles per day if not more.

Now I weigh 240 and I haven't had a lantus shot in months.
I haven't had a humalog shot in over a week. My fasting
BG this morning was 107. My post prandial dinner BG
was 91!

I've got 4 vials of lantus in the fridge plus 3 vials of humalog.

Anybody want them? I seem to have found a cure for type
II IDDM......

Ken,
Congratulations on finding a way of eating and exercising to control
your diabetes.  Sixty pounds lost -- AWSOME.

However good you might feel and however great your BGs currently are,
I will lay you odds that were you to revert to your old habits, you
would be needing those vials again.

No cure.  Just excellent control.  And congratulations.  Enjoy your
new, healthy lifestyle.

It's worth noting that what you have found is a natural way to CONTROL
your type 2 IDDM.  You have not cured it.  Through a lowcarb diet and
exercise you are keeping your blood sugars under excellent control,
enough that you no longer require prescription meds.  That's great!
But if you were truly CURED you wouldn't even need the lowcarb diet
and exercise to keep your blood sugars in the normal range.

um.... to be a bit more technical..
type II IDDM <- if he was IDDM (Insulin Dependant)
would mean he couldn't drop and stop taking it at all.

there is a difference.. T2's that no longer produce enough
insulin are IDDM - the rest mearly suppliment and are not
dependant upon Insulin as a life saving force.

please make sure you use the correct terms as to not to
confuse anyone.

cure? hardly, it's called good management and weight loss.  Keep the
good work.  If you go back to your old diet and exercise you will have
need of the meds again.
