to wake them up?

I set an alarm and have it on snooze to ring every 15 minutes thereafter.
Depending on what shift Pete is on I ring him to wake him up, Anthony has to
be up about 6.30, Alex about 6.20. I get out of bed for Jazz.

Summer is ok, winter is difficult...

Last night I said, someone ring Jazzy and tell her dinner is ready :) Pete
just rang me from the lounge room to ask for a blankie... Having a final
snooze before the overnight shift.

I don't mess around.  I go straight for the ice cubes.

Have you considered a large fire bell in the kitchen, with
repeaters in each room?

Or if you want to be serene and enlightened, a very large
Buddhist temple gong?

They'd sleep through all that but not their phones, because it might be
someone important!

Angela has her own alarm clock.

Only works if they're not currently borrowing my phone because they
haven't charged theirs...

My sister texted me this morning explicitly to tickle my tummy, I was
wearing my Blackberry :P

When my kids were still at home in school I woke them up....but once they
were out of the house they were on their own. They are adults and are to be
responsible for themselves....if they get fired from a job for being late
they will find away to get up in time. Besides my boys now have wives to
wake them and my daughter has a husband:)

How do you get kids to move out? :)
Màck©® - 28 May 2008 03:15 GMT
>How do you get kids to move out? :)

padlock the fridge, and replace all phones with a land line with pay
phones and throw out all cell phones every single time they show up in
the house.

and start charging rent.

Make it more cost effective to move out.

They have done the sums unfortunately. They pay board and lodging, buy their
own phone credit (with the best deals around so it goes further). But they
still know it is cheaper that living away from home.

Most of the time, other times they cook or buy takeaway for themselves. I
tihnk they work to eat sometimes!

Do you still do their washing?
I surely hope you are not still doing their ironing?
I hope they are taking turns in the family cooking?
And all the other internal and external chores.

Mum washed once a week and if your dirty clothes were out their in the
backet, they got washed. Mum ironed at here leisure and you had to wait.
If that didn't suit, you knew where the washing machine was and where the
iron was. Lump it or leave.

Lol, I've finally gotten my wife trained to only iron stuff I
specifically say needs ironing. 905 of my stuff doesn't need it now.

When I lived with my parents (as a long-term-boomerang) I didn't pay any
room or board (or phone bills, but this was back in Ma Bell days & long
before cell-phones were at all common!), but I did take care of all the
grocery shopping, dinner prep (other than "cook's night out"!), liquor
stocking, & other errands. I cleaned my own rooms & did my own wash. When we
had a dog I did my share of dog-care. I also did airport runs several times
a year when they travelled. Even after I moved out I was close enough to
look after the mail & so on when they were away. And close enough to take my
dogs over there to enjoy the *fenced yard* and grandma's attention.

You could point out to them that if they don't move out & something happens
to you & you need taking care of, it'll be hard for them to move away
*then*.

Yes, it worked on me! :-)

Lol, I have used that and Jasmine is disabled and they know she will need a

A co-worker and her hubby did the house-to-condo thing early and told
(24yr old) son bye-bye.

Adult building. No kids allowed.

He's referring to a very funny commercial that ran here in Canada, for
the Dairy Farmers of Canada.

Parents redecorate son's room in the most tacky, campy, dare-I-say
CHEESY 70's style and son says at dinner that night "Love what you've
done to my room". Then the old lady comes on and says "Can't get your
kids to leave home? Stop giving them cheese!"

I couldn't find that particular one on YouTube, but here's another in
the series that's a hoot too. There was maybe a half-dozen different
ones and they're all funny.

Well that took a while. First my oldest son stayed until he was 22...then he
got fired from his job because he was still drunk when he went into
work...his Dad and I sat him down and informed him, he was not going to be a
career bum...he either go to college or join the service...he joined the AF
and plans to retire in 15-18 years(he has been in for 12). My youngest son
went to the local University on full scholarship..so we offered him free
room and board until he graduated..took him 4.5 years(he is a Chemical
Engineer) He got a job in Phoenix 2 months after he graduated, and he moved
there...:) He got married there and has not moved home:) My daughter stayed
in AK when we moved back...but came back home three months later...then
moved out again when she was 22. She came back pregnant at the age of 24(I
preached safe sex, birth control, and commitment from the time they were all
12...didn't work) I told her we would support her in any decision she made
about the pregnancy..she chose to keep the baby. I told her, fine but after
the baby was born, she had to find some kind of career, because she could
not support a baby on $5.00 an hour...so after the baby was born she went to
cosmetology school. Once she got a job I thought she would move out...but
nooo.. she had a free babysitter. So when he was two I told her he had to go
to day care at least a couple of days a week...I thought maybe she would
move out then...but no such luck. When he was 5...my hubby and I decided to
buy some acreage in a rural area outside of Tucson...I asked her if she was
going to move with us because if she was I would have to make sure we had
enough bedrooms...she said "No Way I'm not living in the sticks!!"...and my
dear that is how I got her to move...LOL. My husband said we should have
moved sooner:) She has never moved back, and has since gotten married...and
guess what?.. they moved out of Tucson and just live a few miles from
us...LOL. Now they have all flown the nest and I'm loving it...:)
