Weaning myself from milk & bread.  I am going to try for next few days to just eat meat/chicken/fish/eggs/cheese.  I did make Dr. appt. for next Wednesday....hopefully BG readings be down by then and will not need Rx......but I am hoping <after reading my notes I am taking> he will write Rx for testing strips.  I am sure my insurance will pay for a least part.  Anyway, today I saw the "highs" being lower....except for evening "snack"

Thanks again for tolerating my rantings/ravings.  I feel/it seems this is only place currently I have to get any support.   Hubby is really trying his best with new meal plans, but most everyone else I try to talk about ...about this, seems to think I am overreacting ....  am I?   I worked for 30 years in our local hospital and saw many times what diabetes does to people.  I DO NOT want this to get the best of me....but gosh it is really hard isn't it?

You'd still do better without that milk.  And you really do need to eat something for lunch.  Even if it's just a handful of nuts or seeds.

Julie is right about lunch.  If you do not eat for hours at a time, your
liver is going to dump extra glucose into your bloodstream.  Not good.

Cut the milk out of your day. Sorry, I know you like it -
maybe you can add it back in six months.

But for now it's hurting you. That will also let you know
whether the toast or the milk is the main culprit.

>1 hr PP  167

You're staying high a long time. Cutting the milk not only
cuts carbs - it also cuts fats. You can probably dispense
with the 3hr.

On the totals that was a very low-carb day; however, your
numbers won't drop immediately. The 3hr after dinner was
promising, but you can probably drop that extra test
tomorrow.

It's possible you've actually gone too far in cutting carbs,
but it won't hurt to keep trying for a day or two until you
can see a pattern emerge.

Unless you have cholesterol problems, butter is good. Better than most
margarines, by far! Use it.

EVOO is very good for you! Use a lot of it. Fish is excellent. Try to eat
it at least a couple of times a week.

Try 1/4 cup of half & half instead of the milk. I love it, but use extra
heavy cream in my coffee (on occasion - I prefer it strong and black).

My good friend, Big Jim, in Florida, has lost both legs to diabetes over
the years, but he's got a great attitude. Just gets on with life!

My kid brother has had T2 for around 30 years. He's almost blind in one
eye, can hardly see out of the other! He's had several operations, with
slight improvement.

Those who think you're overreacting have obviously not been "blessed" with
this disease. I will hold my tongue about them. ;-)

I don't think you've been ranting or raving, Brenda. You've been dealt a
tough hand,  probably without prior notice. You've asked questions,
researched, absorbed the good information you've been provided here,
started taking notes and working on your diet. How's your exercise, by the
way? Have hubby put you on a leash and take you for a walk around the
block. LMAO

Take care.

Brenda,

Keep it up - your post-meal spikes are waaaay better than they have
been! A 10-point rise from about 13-14g carbs in that breakfast is not
bad at all. It's actually about twice the carbs I can tolerate in the
morning... Your big problem now is that fasting figure - a number that
high will keep you high all day. Right now your body has something
called glucose toxicity, where it's being poisoned by excess glucose.
As you continue to low carb, you will see a sudden big drop in your
numbers as you break through that barrier. Took me around 3 weeks, I
think.

I agree with Julie - you should have some small thing at lunchtime,
just to keep your body ticking over. A handful of almonds or walnuts
is a fine idea.

Two points

[1] can you configure your software to post in plain text? Probably
someone using Windows Mail can tell you how to do that. It's highly
possible that some servers will drop your messages otherwise and
people will be prevented from reading them.

[2] don't be afraid of medications, something like metformin which
works on the insulin resistance may be a good idea at first: when you
are getting down to more reasonable numbers you may be able to come
off it again later

Also you need a workup for such things as lipids and blood pressure,
and it would be helpful to know your weight also - so we know what
we're dealing with - these three items are usually interlinked in Type
2 but not always.

The usual starter triumvirate for treatment is something for the
insulin resistance, ACE or ARB for blood pressure (which also has
kidney and cardioprotective effects) and maybe a statin for the lipids
- not everyone gets on well with them, there are other approaches to
improving your lipids and the HDL and triglycerides which are usually
high will respond to a combination of diet and exercise.

No you are NOT overreacting. More than one cardiologist  is of the
opinion that Type 2 is a cardiovascular disease occasionally
associated with high BG - not the eejit who writes here who is
mentally ill - the damage starts long long before you actually reach
the diagnostic criteria for "diabetes" and the earlier you start work
on it and the more proactive you are the more chance you have of
reducing the possibility of complications and an early death.

Yes it's hard at first, it means relearning a lot of what you have
been told is gospel, but therre are plenty of folks here and elsewhere
who have made major improvements not only in their current symptoms
but in their future disintegration.

Start Windows Mail, then click on Tools, then Options, then Send.
Under News Sending Format, click on the circle before Plain Text,
then Apply.  Click on OK.

If you reply to a post that isn't in plain text, though, your reply won't
be in plain text either.

Hi Brenda,

I'm going to take your post backwards so to speak.  In my
experience--doesn't apply to all--when some men feel helpless to change the
situation they tend to minimize it.  Your husband can't slay this dragon for
you, so he doesn't know how to deal with it.  I bet if he could, this
diabetes dragon would already be dead, burned, and in the ground.  Don't
hold it against him.  Heck, in this case, that's what you've got us for.
;-)  We'll help you slay this dragon.

And no, you are not over-reacting.  You are right to take this seriously.
You're right, diabetes that is ignored gets damn ugly.

Actually, what is striking me, at least with breakfast is that your meal
isn't raising your BG that much--at least at one hour.  (Since you didn't
test before the other meals--I'm not sure.)  Although I still wonder how
your body would react without the toast and milk--but I do see that you are
cutting down.  Good job!

I'm glad you've made an appt with your doctor.  I almost suggested it in my
last post.  Many Type 2's benefit immensely from adding metformin.  It
*should* be the first med your doctor considers adding.  Since your FBG is
being rather stubborn, I have been wondering if you need it.

Okay, gal.  Hang in there!

Meaningless, because it is not possible to measure the calories of
food that is actually eaten because incineration of the food would be
required.

More meaningful is the estimated total amount of food being:

44 to 54 ounces or more.

Because, this estimate could have been replaced with an actual
measurement thereby allowing you to eat less, down to the right
amount.

Be hungry... be healthy... be hungrier... be euglycemic...

Prayerfully in the awesome name of LORD Jesus Christ,

Andrew <><

Yes, Chung, best not to measure the food by closely approximating its
calories and other critically important measures and replace it with a
nearly meaningless and still inexact measure of food weight which could vary
wildly in those measures because you are willing to allow your idiotic and
dead-wrong interpretation of the bible to control how you advise
diet-critical people how to eat rather than good science.

The only place fit for the 2PD diet to be published in, would be in the
humor section of a scientific magazine.

The 2PD nonsense is so ridiculous that Dr Chung has to constantly spam
newsgroups and respond to each post on Usenet with "Be hungry.." "eat
down to the right amount..." ...  However, yet no one follows this diet
because it's rubbish and illogical.
