Some Catch Up For Me - Eyes

DonnaB shallotpeel - 26 Apr 2008 14:00 GMT I had fast, far back cataracts removed the end of 2005 & the beginning of 2006. My last annual eye exam was last June.
You might recall that I have experienced some blurriness in my left eye. I had been waiting & watching, knowing it could be dry eyes, allergy eyes, etc. But, I couldn't wait any more & saw my eye doc last Tuesday.
All is well in terms of being a diabetic and in terms of my eye pressure.
But, I have this film or capsule or whatever that has formed completely around my implanted lens. I have to have it lasered through, in office, apparently not an unusual procedure. They are getting pre-certification from my insurance & then are to call with available appointments. I can't wait. I'm tired of having so much trouble seeing!
What I have to have done is YAG Laser Capsulotomy. Here's one (of many) sites where you can read about it if you wish.

I had friends who had talked of the procedure, so I guessed that was the problem.
It is very simple and fast, and the vision clears up virtually instantly.

I'm glad to know what it is and that it's not something rare or requiring terribly invasive action, or even where there's little hope for a solution!! Also I was glad to know I was absolutely clean on Diabetic Retinopathy!

She wasa told tht it is not a rare occurance adn usually happens only once.
Can't vouch for anything, but thought it might interest you.

[quoted text clipped - 15 lines] > >http://www.stlukeseye..com/surgical/YAG.asp Yes mother just had this done. Someone posted that it *may* damage the retina but they never told us that, I thought the concept was that the wavelength they used limited its effects to the front of the eye.
When it was first offered they said she would have to wait an hour after it was done and since we already spent half a day there and were expecting another appointment within months she left it.
Many months later when they actually fetched her back in and once again we'd spent most of the day there the retina specialist did it himself (everyone else had gone home) nothing was said about keeping her back for observation and it proved to be totally effective. The vision in her one remaining good eye improved markedly. Just as well as they've written the other one off as untreatable.
No after effects whatsoever, except for the drops (I don't know if they were required for the lasering or just for the scanning).
We were told it may not be totally effective the first time, but it was.
HTH ;)
DonnaB shallotpeel - 09 May 2008 03:42 GMT Thank you everyone. I'm home. One eye dilated.
I could sense some improvement immediately. I even put my Creep Show Boo Radley look out there on view.
It was, really, easy. The usual eye drops & waiting & doing & then waiting & rechecking & then I was off, to come back to see her next week.
I'm so glare sensitive that I think someone must have been looking out for me, as it turned overcast just as we were about to leave!!
