Had my annual retinopathy test today. No sign of any damage. It's all
good, mate.

I thought I would share this with people who wouldn't shrug and say
"So what?".

Brilliant - congratulations on all the work you are doing to keep you
well :)))

Well, there are ones that are taking diabetes very seriously and
gaining as much knowledge on how to keep themselves from years of
misery.  :))

Peter, that's great!  Keep on getting checked and keep on gettign good
reports!  It's worth every cent to be able to catch anything before it
might become a problem.

It feels great, doesn't it. I get mine in May. Was at the ophthamoligist in
November for other reasons but he still says we check in May and so May it
is.

Great news.  By coincidence, I also had my exam today.  Most of the report
was verty good -- no retinopathy, good visual fields test, good OCT (photos
of the back of the eye).  The one negative is that some of the eye test was
blurry, and I have some scar tissue behind my cataract implant on the left
eye.  I am to have it re-evaluated in 6 months.  "Yang laser surgery" (I
think that was the name) is possible, but a big problem is that this surgery
sometimes causes detached retina.  I already had that in the right eye
(successfully repaired), so neither my ophthalmologist nor I want to go that
route unless it becomes absolutely essential.

Wow, they never warned us about that.

Mother was offered it, at the time she was told they'd need to keep
ger in for observation for a hour afterwards - and since we'd already
been there half a day and she was supposed to be back in a couple of
months we postponed it.

As it goes, when we went back we were there for even longer, the
ratina specialist did it himself (everyoen else had buggered off home
by then) and let us go straight home afterwards.

Absolutely NO problems and the effect on her vision was outstanding, I
thought the theory behind the wavelength chosen was that it only
zapped the back of the lens and did not affect the retina or other
structures further back

AFAICR the only thing we were warned was that it may not be successful
and may need repeating if it didn't blat a big enough hole in the
tissue first time

G'day G'day Peter,

 Well done.

It is a thrill tonight to read one celebrating a personal success.

For some reason I've had to wade through many posts to find one that
was simple and to the point.  Congratulations.

Best wishes,

Congrats.

>I thought I would share this with people who wouldn't shrug and say

I just had my eye exam done today. This is the first one I've had in a
few years. I don't have it done every year, because I do not believe
it is necessary for me. That's not to say it's not necessary for
others, but it's just not needed for me.

Anyway, this exam was very good. I still do not need glasses, which
isn't too bad as I'm middle-aged now. The doc told me that he could
not tell that I am a diabetic just by examining my eyes. There were no
traces of any damage, and my eyes looked crystal clear.

My only complaint was that the drops used to dilate my pupils gave me
a headache with pressure in my eyes for hours.

Our local guy uses a scanner with such a powerful flash they no longer
bother with the drops (and being digital he can see instantly if the
photo is not good enough and redo it as soon as the iris has
re-expanded) the downside is that you can hardly see anything let
alone the amazing photos for several minutes but it does wear off much
quicker than the drops

I dunno what they used on mother last time but orange crud was oozing
out of her eyes for about three days

And no I haven't congratulated you on your results because I'm jealous
