At first glance he is smaller than he appears on usenet.
He is however just as loquacious.
I mean, I have a standing order with everyone I know that when they
get bored with me rattling on they can just walk away and I won't be
offended.
I could hardly get a word in edgeways.
OK I'm exaggerating a leetle bit. <G>
Nevertheless he is a highly interesting character and I feel
privileged to have met him. I doubt many of the rest of you who
already met him would disagree.
Special thanks to Nicky for putting up with us and feeding us such
excellent meals. She's equally as nice as she appears on usenet. So's
her family who you haven't met. Even the tortoise.
Not least the Dreamfields which I'd never tried before, on the basis
that if it didn't work I'd be left with a packet of unwanted pasta.
Fortunately it *did* work, my BG went from 4.8 to 6.0, 5.1. 6.5 and
then stayed in the low fives the rest of the night whereas it would
normally be in the high to mid 4s, and my FBG next day was 4.7. So the
result was a slightly prolonged mild high similar to pizza effect
which could probably be dealt with by a walk, no great surprises such
as befall some of you. And no trumpetings or runny bottom neither.

The downside is, it may be that Alan won't be doing any more trips, at
least for a while, so you folks that are yet to meet him, make the
most of it. And start saving up for those tickets to Oz . . .

Me too, and it's exactly what I would expect from anybody meeting
them. :-)

But the tortoise bites :D And we took Alan out for a walk, and got
caught in a nasty, cold, sleety shower, poor man - I hope he hasn't
caught anything as a result! He was trying to get up to Oxford to
visit his great-Aunt the next day, and it snowed so hard they had
busses replacing trains... I don't think England gave him a very warm
welcome this time round!

Yes sorry about that
/me looks out the window, sees the sunshine and suggests we go for a
walk
Well I got my own yesterday, lovely sunny day, walked down town, half
way and was lashed with hail and rain
"Now I wish I hadn't put my laundry out" I said to the guy dismantling
a road sign as he shook the rain off his jacket
Ten minutes later I passed him again further down the road
"Lovely day!" I said as the sun beat down out of a cloudless sky
Got trapped in the pharmacy by a thunderstorm, more hail and rain, and
eventually decided to leg it home anyway to rescue my laundry from its
swimming lesson . . .

Lol, you must be big! I was shocked at his size when I opened my front door
to him. I was looking at his chest...

No not really, when I looked at his photo he reminded me of someone I
used to know who *was* much larger and I guess I filled in the details
incorrectly
(when you get old enough, everyone looks like someone you used to
know)

I hope you said hello to Alan's lovely wife, Lorraine. She's a truly great

I hope that someday, somehow, I'm able to share a moment over a noce
glass of red with Alan. If I ever get to Oz, I'll make that a
priority.

Alan mentioned your remark about his loquaciousness and said it might well
have been because this was his first English speakign sto after being in
may countries where people had limited English. I guess he was just
getting all his talking out of his system. I too can be a talkative
person adn did not feel pushed aside by Alan. We both talked alot, only
my very hard of hearing husband was fairly quiet as he missed much of he
conversation. I learned lots about his and he about me. I also enjoyed
hearing his traelogue, as he has been to interestig places adn has been
quie active in getting to see the major sights. As he said they were all
places he was not likely to see again.
I t was a delightful interlude in my busy holiday rep. I made a large
pot(5 1/2 qts when finished +1 1/2 qts of chicken meat(frozen
separately)of chicken soup around his visit, leaving it on very low to get
everything out of the chicken backs and veal bone while we wee out adn
adding the vegetables later.

Oh believe me it wasn't a criticism! He IS very much as he appears on
usenet IRL, and yes it was very interesting hearing about all the
places he's been where I haven't and probably won't get to visit (and
see the pictures he's uploaded which should appear in his blog
sometime)
Talking of loquacious, I greeted a couple sat on the seat in Duck Lane
on my way back from the shops, they were telling me about a pair of
Muntjac deer they'd just seen in a garden, we started cracking on
about all sorts, and an hour later . . .
