I have two pens and a prescription for needles. So far that's all I know. The educator I need is at another hospital. I am not really sure how to get to it and will need to get a ride there. Will have to wait until my parents get home from today's trip to find out when they can take me there. Looks like the soonest it can be is the 10th. I was told I would have to >meet with a dietician as well. Oh joy! Lantus improved my diabetes management a lot. 21 units nightly lowered my fbg from 130 or more to a respectable 90 or less. It lowered my HbA1c from the high 6s to below 6. I take it with a small dose of Novorapid to hel me cope with the odd unavoidable carb-induced peak. I suggest you should learn what effect Lantus has at what time, and at what dosage. The dosage will be influenced by the carbs you eat and by the exercise you do. I suggest you measure frequently to determine the correct dosage. Always carry something sweet such as jelly beans, just in case you get hit by an unexpected hypo. Start with the dose your endo suggests, then, if necessary, increase it gradually till you have the required effect. I know you'll get plenty of good advice here. He has me starting on 10 units at night. I can't see how that would help me if your numbers are already that much lower then mine. I went from 135 at bedtime to 202 before breakfast this morning and 306 after. I will have to talk to him about getting some more strips. My current prescription is for 3 per day. I didn't ask him while I was in there because it quite took me by surprise. He went from, "We might put you on insulin", to "Go back in the room" and a bag of insulin being dropped in my lap. Use what the dietician gives you as a guideline, but tailor it for you. I think you'll find the Lantus very effective. Beware of initial hypo episodes until you get acclimated. But as it is long acting, you'll find you have better control throughout the day. If you need any help or anything, give me a holler. SignatureT2 - Oct.
