I bought the Abbott Freestyle Freedom BG Monitoring System at Walmart.
Newly diagnosed T2.
The test strips are expensive(50 @ $30), but there seem to be cheaper
ones. Can I substitute with other strips? Are there other sources?
Thanks

each meter takes it's own specific type of strip...... some meter makers
have more than 1 type of strips for each of their different meters
WalMart sells their own brand of meter and strips for less than the name
brand meters

I believe Wal Marts Relion meter, around $9.99 and the strips around
$40-44 dollars per hundred is about the cheapest. Rite Aid also has
its own meter with cheaper strips, as does Walgreens. As you're
finding out, the cost is in the strips. As far as substituting strips,
there are very few subs that will work in different meters. Good luck.

Last time I checked, a few months ago, the Walgreens strips were about
$36/100.

'Fraid not. This is how the drug companies make their money off the
backs of us diabetics.

Generally, they are NOT interchangable. walmart has their own house brand
with cheaper strips - so does Walgreen's.
