that are NOT red kidney beans?

Never seen one in over 20 years.
Has anyone seen a dietitican recommended bean dish that uses something
other than red kidney beans?

I haven't seen a dietician recommended bean dish to begin with.  But my dad
took a diabetes education class and they recommended black beans.  Why?  I
don't know.

Although they're high in carbs, most of it's fiber, so tne 'net carbs' are
low. Also, they digest slow, so their GI is low. Besides, they taste good.
Recipe on demand. ;-)

You said "recipe on demand."  I love black bean soup (and also black beans
in salads), and they do not have a negative effect on my BG.  So, if you
have a couple of good recipes, pleas post them!

Generally, the smaller the bean, the more fiber. Best of all is the
lentil. Still gotta watch the quantities.

Speaking of lentils, does anyone have a recipe for breakfast lentils?
since cereal has become no-no, Bacon and eggs every morning is not that
appealing.

Try my cotage cheese, small amounts of reletively low carb fruis and plain
yogut, along with your coffee.  This breakfas works very well for me,
using 3 -4 fruits in very small amounts, like 1/6 mango, 2-3 strawberries,
2-3 big blackberries, handful of blueberries, 1/4 ofr of small apple, half
a clentine (small) orange half apeach, 1 apricot, a smile slice of
canteloupe, etc.

I can't cope with lentils in the morning - too carby for me - but I
enjoy linseed porridge, or occasionally use the mixture to make
pancakes. The mix is (approximately - I don't measure too carefully):

1 cup linseed - makes about 1 1/2 cups when ground
1/2 cup almonds and/or brazil, ground
couple of scoops of protein powder (I use whey)
1/4 cup wheat or oat bran
cinnamon and sweetener to taste

I make up about a 1/4 cup with a bit more volume of boiling water, and
let it sit for a couple of minutes whilst I'm running round in the
morning. If I fancy pancakes, it's a couple of dessertspoonfuls mixed
with an egg.

In a coffee grinder. They keep for ages whole, but not very long
ground, so I do about a week's supply at a time and keep the mix in
the fridge.

Yes, I like lentils, too.  I don't have a recipe, but I enjoy lentil soup
when I have the opportunity.  I need to check for some "quick 'n easy" bean
soup recipes.

Hmm, not exactly lentils but "pease pottage", dried split peas boiled
until still slightly al dente then added to the frypan as the bacon
(and mushrooms) are nearly done might work.

Never tried it for breakfast, it takes too long to cook, but works
well for me at other times of day, the flavours go together well

Ever try it in the pot, nine days old?

<G>

There used to be a village near where I used to live, the locals were
in constant argument as to whether it was Peas Pottage or Pease
Pottage, god knows how much they spent on road signs

I'm just wondering if soaking the peas overnight might speed up the
cooking like it does for beans
