Wowza... I love chocolate but dang.
I'd been occaisionally getting their 85% version which is pretty good and
relatively low-carb. One large bar is less carbs than a much smaller
Hershey bar, for example (don't have the nutrition list handy but I believe
it was 20 carbs for the entire bar versus 22 for Hershey's. This 99% cocoa
is a smaller bar, about half as thick but the same size, and is 13 grams of
carbs, 6 grams of dietary fiber (didn't notice fiber on the other). The
85%, like I mentioned the first time I posted about it was quite a shocker
at first bite, but then I found myself craving it. This is a bit different.
As much as I love chocolate (and I was honestly expecting this to turn out
this way) the 99% is kind of hard to tolerate - quite bitter. I think I'll
stick with the 85% or thereabouts from now on.
For those of you who remember me as Frisbee, and wonder how I've been doing,
I've been reading here every day, just not been much in the mood to post or
otherwise contribute. Been through a lot of changes in my life recently.
My employer of 22.5 years informed me mid-way last month that he was going
to shut down business, so I was frantically looking for a backup plan for
income. As it turns out, we continued the business with just the founder
and myself and we're both working out of our homes now. Hopefully things
will pick back up and I may get an "office" aside from this make-shift one
in our bedroom again. I applied for VA benefits because of my visual
handicap and was awarded 20% disability. For those of you familiar, the
magic number is 30% for major benefits, so I'm a bit disappointed as I was
led to believe by many that I'd qualify. The money is significantly lower,
and no health insurance or education benefits for my family, but it's better
than it was before.
I'm also horribly frustrated with my weight. When I was diagnosed T2 in May
of 2007, I weight 241 lbs. Within two months I had dropped to 228. I
slowly started putting it all back on from that point, to now where I'm all
the way up to 250. I doubt it's the food, since I eat like a bird,
especially compared to what I used to eat (and maintained my weight no
matter WHAT I ate), I'm sure it's the fact that I'm not getting exercise.
I'll have to address that somehow, but visual impairment and neuropathy try
to convince me otherwise... sigh. Still depressed, still on Prozac, life
still sucks, but I go on. Oh yeah, and my Gators are losing in Football and
Basketball! How much worse could it get?! :-)

That 99% stuff is probably designed for baking , rather than eating. It
is really just about unpalatable! With the 85% i can eat 2 sqquares and
it is 4 grams total carbs, with 1.5 grs fiber, so actually a net of 2.5
carb grams!

Glad you have something going with the job, even if it is not perfect and
in an office. Just think how valuable an emplyee yu are for the boss to
find a way to keep you oon in these times of reduced business!

That is a bummer! Are you continuing to waatch your carb intake? If you
let up on that area, it can really put on, not only bgs, but pounds!
ONe thing that helps me is to amek sure to weigh myself every day so I can
tighten up in the carbs deartment or food quantity department if I go up a
pound In this way it doesn't get ahead of me. This has worked fo rme for
20 years. If you are on meds for depression tht doesn't help either.

85% is extremely bitter to me, 99% would be intolerable altogether ;)

Yeah, I can't cope with the 99% at all. I don't like the texture, as
well as the taste.

Worse :P But if you flip your message over, that's a lot of good
things happening to you too. Your boss must be pretty impressed by you
to keep you on, and 20% benefit is better than zero... How come you're
not exercising? I work from home, and find it quite useful; if I get a
lot of emails, I'll read them from my stepper, and I make sure to have
a break and wander round the house every so often. I can also usually
fit in at least a 40min walk at lunchtime, too - and of course I'm
controlling my own food. My brother, who's a technical salesperson,
has been known to do most of his business from the golf course...
