I seem to have gained back 5 of those 8 pounds I lost.  The only thing I can
figure is that it is to do with "that" time of the month.  At least I am
still down 3 pounds from what I was so it's not a bad thing.

Don't despair Julie, 3 pounds is 3 pounds, and women tend fluctuate a
lot with water weight at times.

I know.  And this seems more reasonable.  I had to keep looking and looking
at the scale when I lost the 8 pounds.  I suppose another consideration is
the gastroparesis.  I suppose there is no telling how much food my stomach
might retain when it is not working properly.

When I weigh myself, I always do it at one time of the day; first
thing in the morning, after visiting the bathroom, and before doing
anything else. I am always dressed the same way (not saying, on the
grounds that it's too much information). Currently, I vary between 191
and 195 lb., and that range is going slowly downward (a week ago it
was between 193 and 196, which is fine by me. My target is 175 or so,
but I am in no hurry to get there. Having started at 237 last August,
I figure I am in much better shape now, and can afford to work on
fine-tuning my calorie intake and increasing my exercise.

Larry,

I only weigh in on Fridays. It's not all going to fall off overnight.

Standing on a scale everyday is just futile, imho.

You're headed in the right direction. Good luck reducing!

I started reducing at 247lbs in May 2007 after gout attacked me. Then
diabetes attacked me in November 2007 (I didn't have a clue).

Eat as natural as you can and skip the saturated fats in favor of the mono-
unsaturated kind when you can.

Best,

Andy

That is a ubjective matter.  For me,  a  daily visit to the scale keeps my
weight level.  If i were to weigh in only once a week, I might easily put
on several  pounds.  The daily check, even with the water variations that
exist, works , like reading this group, to keep me on the straight and
narrow.  Same thing with testing.  although I no longer have to tet as I
used to, I still check 1-1 1/2 housspp or I am sure I would start having
just a bit here and a bit there adn soon the bgs would be rising.  We each
have to know ourselves adn find what works to keep us homest.  I don't.

I don't see a problem with stepping on the scale once per day, or even
more. It's of no concern to me that some folks think it's futile, or
(as some folks have told me) counterproductive. It's not as if I panic
and starve myself if the scale shows a few pounds increase. Seeing the
daily numbers just makes me feel good, and if anything, reduces my
stress by reassuring me. I could step on it once per week, but I have
no reason to limit my weighings; no reason at all.

Larry,

It's NOT a rule. The scale is there, step on it when you wish. From years
of yo-yo dieting, I know I'm not going to lose pounds overnight.

Aside: I DO test BG and BP religiously! Thanks to weight loss, this
morning's BP was 110/70 without medication. I'm able to skip my Diovan (or
half it) about every other day recently.

Best,

Andy

Julie, I never have any idea about my stomach relative to the gastroparesis,
and its affect on my weight or bg.   I am in a *feeling better* mode right
now, so this would probably be a good time to do an indepth bg check-up on
myself, then see my endo preferably before my next hospitalization.  It is
just *so* hard to do whenever *down*.

How are you doing otherwise?

I think I'm coming down with something again.  Kept clearing my throat all
day yesterday and couldn't figure out why.  Now I have a bad sore throat and
feel like crud.

Good. 3lbs is a healthy amount.
