Hello

I'm a diabetic (ICT, basal-bolus-insulin).
Do you know diabetes-books, especially for diabetics using insulin
(ICT)?

Do you know the following book?
"Using Insulin, Everything You Need for Success With Insulin by John
Walsh etc."
Can you tell me about it?

I want to learn more about ICT, insulin, everyday practices, problems
and their solutions.

Thank you.

You might look at this to make sure you keep up with the rest of the
newsgroup:

Welcome to a group you probably didn't want to join.

It's a play on words for a newly diagnosed diabetic.  "welcome to the
group or club (diabetes) that no one wants to join (have diabetes).

Maybe I should have wrote "didn't want to need to join".
Welcome anyway.

You might want to check out the other worthwhile diabetic
newsgroups, which are less active than this one:

alt.support.diabetes.uk

If you didn't have diabetes you probably wouldn't have "joined". Just sad
that we ARE here because we have diabetes. I am sure we would all rather not
have it :)

what is ICT?

The John Walsh books are very popular amongst Insulin users, he's
written a very good book on pumping insulin.

In a follow up you say you are not a newly diagnosed diabetic.  Are
you new to insulin?  How long have you been using insulin?

ICT is the name of bolus and basal insulin therapy.
In the night at 22 o'clock I inject basal insulin .. NPH insulin ..
Protaphan.
At every meal I inject a bolus insulin .. Humalog.

I don't use a pump.
I've used insulin for many years ... I think I can still learn :)

ICT is "Information and Communication Technologies". The only
ICT/insulin reference I found in my quick google search yielded "Insulin
Coma Therapy". Isn't that what some docs have used to get heroin addicts
clean?

I suspect someone has told pAnda it's something like "Insulin
Combination Therapy". If so, that's a new one to me.

If you're having trouble finding information, pAnda, try looking up MDI
(Multiple Daily Injections) or DAFNE (Dose Adjusted For Normal Eating).
Those are the common terms for a basal/bolus regimen, depending on where
you are.

Walsh should be read by every insulin junkie, IMO. He knows his stuff.
If you want more info, get Walsh's "Pumping Insulin". It's the pumper's
bible.

For even more info, the insulin pumper's website has a How To section
that covers non-pumpers stuff like ratios, basal testing, etc.
