Good Morning,
The Missus woke up with a BG reading of 5.1.
Two hours after breakfast, 7.1.
Just before lunch 5.0.
The past couple of days the numbers have started off great. We're
experimenting a bit with food and we've noticed some things really
cause her numbers to bounce (upwards).
Also found this site http://www.nutritiondata.com/ which lists not
only nutritional data but the glycemic load ... ah ... glycemic load.
I'm sure someone's pointed this out in a previous reply but
anyhow ... I realized the difference this makes from having one piece
of whole grain bread toasted and a sandwich made with 2 slices. It'll
double the GL and send it from being a low GL to a high. Things are
slowly beginning to make some sense ... I think :-) Also, the site
mentions a GL of 10 or less is considered low, anything over 20 is
high. Is this correct?
Thanks again for being here.
Cheers!

AKA "the importance of portion control!"
and BTW it's rather an individual matter as to "how high is high" &
"how big is big (serving size)" for any particular food.

wow, excellent bg control, Marvin!
and in under 2 weeks, at that
congratulations, your research is paying off :)
as for the GL, your meter will tell you if it's a level you can eat or
not...... i go by the GI and avoid the foods with a GI over 50

Excellent! So glad your wife is doing so well. It's daunting, I know,
but you really did the right thing by coming here and keeping an open
mind.
I can't claim I helped any, but the rest seemed to have it well in
hand.

Lovely!

Nice - but what was the 1-hour? That's more likely to be the spike.
>Just before lunch 5.0.
Cool! A lovely base figure.
GL is a good place to start testing from - but there's still too much
individual variability amongst diabetics to take it as gospel; you'll
still need to test. I see that Jennie Brand-Miller's team is retesting
foods, with a bigger number of test subjects, though - they've just
removed carrots from the high-GI list, which matches my experience -
so maybe the GI / GL tables are becoming more generally usable. They
have the bad habit of using non-diabetics as test subjects, though :P
