I have been reading this group for years. I have learned much and
contributed a little. The group seems to be dying. Almost every thread ends
up in a pissing contest. This was a place where a newbie could come for
advice, I still recommend it to newbie's in my diabetes group but with
caveat's.
Maybe I should start posting again to spice things up.

I think all newsgroups are getting far less activity. I don't know why. I
used to post to several others but now it seems the posts are few and far
between and when there is a post it's likely to be spam and/or OT.

Agreed, there are a lot of factors.
ISPs often do not supply usenet.
Newbies do not know of its existence.
Much information has gone over to web forums and blogs.
Many groups have been taken over and effectively closed down by
organised gangs of trolls (often the same gang in different groups,
sometimes different individuals with strikingly similar personality
disorders)
It's only a few individuals here who would be best killfiled and not
responded to but I'm just as guilty of replying to the fuskwits as
everyone else so perhaps I should just killfile myself

G'day G'day Anon,
Some time back I wondered whether interest in asd was dying. Some of
the regular posters who contributed so much had left. Talking to them
privately I discovered that political issues indulged in by a few had
made the venue unattractive. That was sad. Each person who
contributes contributes more than answers or empathy to folks who are
distressed. They contribute to a living entity of kind caring people,
people who believe in something greater than themselves. It is these
people I hope my actions will foster.
Also what I was told by someone with some knowledge of how the
Internet works is that Google changed its search paradigm some months
back. Imagine for a moment that you're a newbie that uses Google to
find out about diabetes. In the past usergroups got a higher rating
than blogs. Apparently now blogs get a higher rating. Whether or not
this is actually true I don't know. If it is it is sad. What it means
is the collective wisdom to be found in groups is down rated. It
also means that blogs with their advertising get a higher rating than
say asd which specifically bans advertising. Perhaps advertising is
ultimately where the money is.
BTW. I'll hope you'll post without needing to "spice things up"
Ultimately the newly diagnosed need people who are prepared to share
their collective wisdom for no reward.
Best wishes,

It's always the same few individuals who do nothing here but disrupt
and are here only for attention. Narcissists are just as happy with
negative as positive attention because it is attention, and due to
their defective social behaviours it's easier to obtain than the
positive kind. Sad to see their campaign succeed and imformation
getting suppressed.

Now thats an interesting point. Very probable. When I started on the
net, most every ISP supplied usenet, now many don't and if they do
they don't advertise it (increasingly they supply a feed from Giganews
or Supernews rather than running their own servers if they supply
anything)
So a lot of people don't know of its existence. If they're no longer
finding it via Google, well that's a good thing in some ways <G> but a
bad thing in others.
It used to be said that information wants to be free, unfortunately
nowadays information wants to be $9.99

I am relatively new to the group and it has given me some good directions
(thanks Alan S. et al). However it is like wading through mud some days to
find the genuine and useful posts amongst the spam and frankly wacko posts.

I find my kill-file useful to cut the trash out..
I suppose its what your looking for..some dislike any non diabetic
talk...others think thats just what a support group is...others want a mix.
Some ignore any post marked OT..other avoid the technical type convos with
flow charts and science jargon..lol
I tend to KF those who are here to promote thier diet plan and biblical
views and those who bring little but negativity...and the few who just think
its funny to post nonsense like "my dog ate my meter"..some find that funny
i find it a waste of my time..
to each thier own..thats what makes the world go round.
Welcome to the group

May you and other dear friends, brethren, and neighbors have a
blessedly wonderful 2008th year since the birth of our LORD Jesus
Christ as the Son of Man ...
... by being hungrier:
http://TruthRUS.org/KnowingGOD
Hunger is wonderful:
http://HeartMDPHD.com/Hunger
It's how we know what GOD wants, which is what is good.
Yes, hunger is our knowledge of good versus evil that Adam and Eve
paid for with their and our immortal lives.
Those who suffer from the powerful delusion predicted by the prophecy
of 2 Thessalonians 2:9-11 would deny this and perish ( gone !!! )
forever ...

Irrelevant
The issue is not being Christian -- statistically most of those on
this group are probably Christian.
Dr Chung is rude and factually wrong.

ASD looks healthy to me. Lots of debate and information. Some long time
users come and go but many come back when they need info or need to
vent. There is a fatigue factor that can drive folks away, but they
usually come back after an R & R.
Some users may develop a new love and get wound up in other pursuits.
If I get too grumpy about this or that here, it's time to go get some
exercise and take an ASD break.
