Do you take omega fish oil? I started taking it...1000mg per day.
Okay, go ahead and say it...Who cares what Lerp takes. Just curious
what the benefits are supposed to be and can anyone here say they
actually benefited from it?
My doc stated he was going to prescribe a drug that is similar to
omega 3 fish oil if my triglycerides were back up. So, I started
taking omega 3 on my own just as a preventative measure. My
triglycerides came back at 75 so he never prescribed anything.

I've started taking a couple of caps each day. Too early to
judge results.

I cannot vouch for this. However, I heard a caller on talk radio state
that they took omega 3 fish oil and it eased neuropathy pain. I don't
have neuropathy nor any other complications so I don't know if it
helps.

I get mine at Whole Foods; also some flax oil capsules. They have more than
one brand there & I just get what's on the shelf when I'm buying it -- which
isn't often as they come in bottles of 180 or 250 capsules (I forget which
comes in which) and I don't remember *every* day.

I have taken 4 fish oil capsules a day for over 6 years (short periods
of 3 capsules) of the kind sold at WalMart so the long chain Omega 3
(EPA and DHA) are much less than 1000 mg. These are not the more
purified kind that Barry Sears pushes. My triglycerides are usually
near 60 mg/dl. There were two separate 6 month periods in which I added
inulin or FOS with my breakfast and had 38 mg/dl and 40 mg/dl
triglyceride levels respectively. Inulin (extracted from chicory) and
FOS (fructose oligosaccharide) act somewhat like insoluble dietary
fibers and the bacteria in the lower digestive tract break them down
into short chain fatty acids such as acetate and butyrate that impact
lipids levels in the blood. I didn't think my TGs needed to be that low
especially since my HDL is typically greater in mg/dl than my TGs. I am
not saying that fish oil capsules or the other stuff mentioned here was
the sole effectors on my triglyceride levels, but they are important.

Hey, Lerp. I have been taking the Puritan's Pride 1200mg x4 per day.
Before my dx my trigs were 400+ and 1 year later (and many fish oil
caps later) my trigs were 60. This I partially credit to the fish oil
but I also restrict carbs a have an exercise program so I can't say
which is the most responsible for the positive change. I know it
isn't a low-fat diet, because I guzzle heavy cream and eat cheese by
the brick. And consistent, modest alcohol consumption is the
cornerstone of my heart-healthy diet. YMMV.

I take it to try and prevent memory loss. Since I started a couple of
years ago, I haven't put the teapot in the fridge and the milk under
the teacosy again, so I think it's working...

That's funny. I more or less did it to avoid going on a prescription
and to keep my arteries clean. I hate getting type 2 at a young age.
If I were 20 years older...

Yeah. I'm 47, and half my family are seriously long-lived - I do NOT
want to spend several decades nursing complications if I can help it!
