Zetia was completely effective for me but I couldn't take it because of side
effects.
I take Welchol & my numbers are improving.

Oh, and neither Zetia nor Welchol are statins. I can't take any statin
because of side effects.

By "effective," the study looked at reduction of mortality and morbidity
measures. Even though Zetia reduced LDL cholesterol very well, it did not
add effectiveness to taking simvastatin alone.

Are there data showing reduction of heart attacks and strokes from Welchol?

I don't know. But, it is a newer drug. And, when I first began trying to
take statins they didn't know those things about them either.

My Dr put me on Crestor because he said it works well on Diabetics. I'm on a
low dose and my Chol dropped very nicely.

Some would say "none."
I refuse statins because they're too new and the *known* side effects
put me off. I take sustained release niacin, fish oil, and pantethine.

I've tried Lipitor, Simvistatin and Zetia. All produced side
effects within 2 weeks of starting. "None" is the answer for
THIS diabetic.

That is basically determined by the diabetic themselves. I'm on Zocor, and
it works reasonably well. Did have a problem mixing it and Lopid however.
