"... and the blind dog was leading."

: G'day G'day Folks,
: Part of the general folk lore for T2 diabetics to be found on ASD is
: that first one needs to attend to giving up a sedentary lifestyle if
: that is what one has. Then there is getting tight control of one's
: post prandial blood glucose which leads fair automatically to an
: improvement in one's A1c. The desired target is to get one's A1c
: below 6 ie to be in the 5% club. This is cause for celebration.
: Of course each person is an individual and only one's medical advisor
: has the background information and can perform the tests to know what
: is and isn't relevant. As we often say, YMMV. Your mileage may vary.
: Some people will need to lower blood pressure BEFORE it is safe to
: engage in vigorous exercise. Some will need statins or other
[quoted text clipped - 3 lines]
: Put simply, it pays to get the best available advice from the most
: qualified people when your life depends on it which of course is now.
: People sometimes wonder what to aim for next when all those important
: things have been dealt with. What is the next goal?
: For some it is weightloss.
: For others it is getting a lower triglyceride to HDL ratio, TG:HDL.
: This is attractive for so many reasons eg it is a marker for lowering
: insulin resistance. No extra tests have to paid for. The information
: is freely available from a standard blood lipid profile.
: All it requires is a calculator in order to be able to track one's
: progress.
: The following appears to offer yet another reason for lowering
: triglycerides.
: Medscape requires one to subscribe but the subscription is free and
: they appear to treat those that subscribe with total respect. One
: even has a choice of which material they will include in the emails
: they regularly send should you opt for them to do that.
: Best wishes,
Quentin,
Have you read Taubes book that has been mention here a number of times? I
got a pretty good idea of the connectins between VLDL,s triglycerides adn
HDLs from that book. One thing is puzzling me, however. It states that
the VLDLs are very ow density adn very small and are tht way because they
are "filled with tryglydcerides and the regular LDLs are "filled" with
larger fluffier particles of lipoproteins( if I have the corect term).
How can something that is "lower density" be heavier thatn those simply
"low density?" I think that something may be missing in my science
education here, but it seems counterintuitive.

Wendy,
I think you read it wrong. From p 171 in 'Good Calories, Bad
Calories'
"..some people have mostly large, fluffy LDL, with a lot of
cholesterol and triglycerides inflating the balloon, and some people
have mostly smaller, denser LDL particles with less cholesterol and
triglycerides."
