That is really great, Andy... Sometimes, even small things affect our
BG. For instance, yesterday, mine was 85, while this morning it was
106. The only explanation I have is that I was up until 3:00 a.m. this
morning, following a choir concert and early breakfast. I think it
might have been that dab of grits I ate....

Here's hoping you have a very happy Christmas!

G'day Will,

When I read the first few posts here, I thought - ha! Christmas Pudding or
Fruit Cake may become accepted diabetic medication - at least for reducing
fbg. Jokes aside, bg figures often do the strangest things. You expect it to
be up - but it's down; you expect it to be down, but it goes through the
roof! And then you go on a long self-examination in trying to assess WHY.
I'm not preaching to anyone here. This sort of anomaly has bedevilled me
since I was diagnosed Type 2 in 1995. I suppose the trick is not to end up
drawing some wrong conclusion about what caused your bg to go up or to go
down, and act on it to your detriment.

Anyway, rant over. I hope you and all posters and readers (of all religions)
had a Lovely Christmas with your families and friends. Despite being Jewish,
my wife, my kids and I had a Lovely Christmas. I wish all of you a Very
Happy New Year - one of Peace, Happiness and Health. I hope in the coming
year our HbA1cs are lower than ever.

Henry Mydlarz.

Cool! Didn't test fbg, but 1 hour post turkey was 4.9. Home-made
cranberry sauce with Splenda, bread sauce with low-carb bread, shop
bought apricot/walnut stuffing at 25g/100g, turkey, carrot/swede mash,
sprouts, gravy, 2 small roast potatoes, sausagemeat stuffing, small
glass of Shiraz, and two chocolates. Yum :D

My turn to cater tomorrow, the ham's cooked and in the fridge, as are
the pickled salad veggies and coleslaw; just baked the rolls, and
taken a low-carb bagel out of the freezer for me. I just need to wash
and assemble the green salad, and whip up some brandy cream for the
Christmas pud. I'll be higher tomorrow, Christmas pud is definitely
not diabetic friendly - but I'm not driving, so I can have more wine,
see if I can balance it that way. Also, the weather forecast is set
dry tomorrow, unlike today, so I can walk off the excess!

I am still slapping myself on the back for being so good.  I managed to keep
portions to an absolute minimum, while others around me stuffed themselves.
Well, actually, they didnt stuff themselves in the true sense of the word
because I actually put less on everyones plate this year.  Of course, they
could eat the contents of Cadbury's selection boxes before and after and not
worry.  I had a tablespoon of my homemade choc cake with thick cream for
afters and two glasses of port.

My 1 hour test was 6.3 (113.4) - I then went for a wonderful brisk walk in
the cold winter air and bg was down to a nice 5.4 within another hour.

Your bg was superb, Nicky - you are an old hat at this! :))))))

Without weighing, there really is no way to know if the food was less:

http://HeartMDPhD.com/EatLess

Truth is simple.

May we, who have stopped sinning though we remain sinners, have a
blessedly wonderful New Years ...

... by being hungrier:

Hunger is wonderful :-)

It's how we know what GOD wants, which is what is good.

Yes, hunger is our knowledge of good versus evil that Adam and Eve
paid for with their and our immortal lives.

Be hungry... be healthy... be hungrier... be blessed:

http://HeartMDPhD.com/HolySpirit/BeBlessed

"Blessed are you who hunger NOW...

... for you will be satisfied." -- LORD Jesus Christ (Luke 6:21)

Amen.

Prayerfully in the infinite power and might of the Holy Spirit,

Andrew <><

Perfecto!

And you know what - I really don't feel deprived. It's my birthday
next week, I'm currently trying to decide whether to cook a goose (if
I can find one!), do some crispy belly pork, or get an Indian
takeaway. Decisions... I think I'll make some chocolate brownie as a
cake, so I can freeze the excess for later on. Got the inlaws coming
on Sunday, they get lasagne (Dreamfields), salad and Eton mess...
really, this cooking for diabetics-and-family lark is a cinch :D And I
was looking over my logbook this morning; my fbgs and >8 spike
frequency are continuing to improve, and my weight's been constant for
a good couple of years.

There is life after dx...

I agree completely!  I havent felt this *well* in a long time and it makes
me wonder just how long I really had diabetes before dx!  And a simple (but
radical) change in diet and upping the exercise has made all the difference.

I couldnt believe I could eat less and survive ha ha

I'd go for the pork with crackling ....

Throw in a few potatoes to roast in the "pork juice" and
you have a delicious meal that only really needs some sprouts.

I'd like to start it with a simple salad of "roquette" salad with
balsamic, chopped tomatos and maybe a few 'chips' of parmesan ...

mmm, - Oh, I'm not allowed to use that in here with the SS around ...

I was with you until the sprouts :D  Priscilla likes 'em, I think
they're nasty! But I have a nice piece of pork belly in the fridge;
will do that crispy Chinese-style, with some nice cavalo nero,
potatoes for my carb-eaters, and one of Nick's aubergine recipes for
me.
