Has anyone here had trouble with metformin setting off reflux (GERD)? If
so, what did you do about it?

I found Prilosec and it was like a miracle to me. I was constantly
burping and feeling a burning in my stomach. The first prilosec did the
trick.

Well, if GERD is antacid reflux, then I take bicarbonate of Soda.

I assume, since you're asking the question, that either you, or
someone that you know, has this problem. Therefore, the answer to your
question, obviously, has to be "yes".

I've used metformin for 11 years. I can't identify it as a cause for
reflux, but I was taking Prilosec a long time before I started
metformin. I didn't require any change to the Prilosec dosing when I
started metformin.

I have GERD but don't know that this is the cause. I can't take any of the
GERD meds. They make me super sick. I just take regular antacids.

I used to have, but not at all since starting LC many years ago. Merry
Christmas Julie, Angela, and DH. I hope he's doing much better after
the surgery.

I was put on 500mg of metformin three weeks ago. So far no problems.

Not metformin, but I used to have a few things (like caffeine) that
would consistently reflux at night. When I went on a moderately
lowcarb diet (75-100g/day) the GERD stopped even if I ate those
trigger foods. Even on "cheat days" it hasn't come back.
A lot of other people here have also reported that a lowcarb diet
relieved their GERD. While it doesn't work for everyone it seems to
work for most people and is almost always worth trying.

Not really. I have had IBS for decades more than I have had diabetes.
Consequently the loose stools some complain about when starting on
metformin were no worse than before. In so far as acid reflux is
concerned that has been something that has come and gone for many
years. I have found that Pepsid Complete deals with it very well for
me.
Good luck to you.
