Hi everyone

I am from Denmark, and I have been in insulin treatment for Type II diabetes
for
about 9 month now.

During the 9 month, I have gained about 20 kg more than my normal weight,
and maybe Byetta can help me get some of this lost again. But I also know
that I have to do something active myself. Byetta is not some kind of
miracle cure to weight loss. But I think I have the motivation to do
something now, because on my job we are having a "health year" in 2008, and
then I have someone to compete with. :-)

I hate the feeling when I have low bloodsugar, and after what I've heard,
Byetta doesn't give theese low bloodsugars. I don't mind having to inject
medicine 2 times a day. That's no problem for me.

My doctor has suggested me to change to Byetta instead of insulin. I have
used Glimepirid to stimulate my own bodys insulin production, but that has
not helped at all. However my doctor is certain, that my pancreas is able to
produce some insulin, so I could get some benefits from changing to Byetta.

Is there anyone of you who use Byetta, and how are you feeling after you
have changed to the
new medicine?

I was on Byetta for 4 months and did not have any ill effects.  I was still
taking long acting insulin (Lantus) at bed time.  Byetta with breakfast and
dinner.  No weight gain or loss.  The only reason I stopped using Byetta was
my cheap insurance company decided they would not pay for it.  Otherwise I
would still be using it.

Peter I am on byetta.  I love it.  I lost over thirty pounds on it.  It
keeps blood sugars more stable without the highs and the lows.  It
causes a decrease in appetite.  If you overeat you will be sick.  I have
kept off most of the weight and it is over a year now.

Most people who take byetta also take metformin and I think you should
speak to your doctor about that.

I give it two thumbs up.

There are some concerns about Byetta however:

I havbe hade EXCELLENT results with Byetta
1) You MUST take Byetta in combination with an iral med - often Glucophage
2) Byetta does not replace Insulin.  Despite the fact that Byetta has
not officialy ben  tested with Insulin, many of us still use Insulin to
knock the peaks off,\
3) Beware of hypos - not a biggie as long as you know what a hypo is
like and keep your meter handy.
