I was reading through old emails today and whilst it's not exactly an
anniversary, i thought with it being the season of good will that now would
be a good time to mention him and anyone else that you knew through here and
have since passed away - hopefully to a better place.
I'm sure there's more than a few of us who remember him and will join me in
remembering a man who for many, me included was nothing short of an
inspiration. A tad mad .... but a really decent bloke at heart and will
always be missed. It's important that we remember the people who helped us
when we were new to all of this and for me, Alan was one of those very
special people.

I do recall Alan, however vaguelly, as one of the many people who, as one of
the may worthwhile posters in the diabetic newsgroups, have been responsible
for me being still alive and kicking now. Many other names come to mind. I
give them all my respects.

There are a couple more whose names escape me. One was a young type 1 and
the other was a type 2 I believe who had cancer. Ratty will know. I believe
there is a better place.

I didn't realise this was crossposted and only mentioned those I recall from
ASDUK. There is also Buck, Mik and Charles that I remember off the top of my
head.

There is Jan, but Chung will find it and spam the f.ck out of it before we
get there.

One of Chung's goals is to NOT find the place
he thinks most of us are going.

the irony is, that's exactly where he is going and none of us will be
there with him.

I think you mean Hippo for the poster that had cancer. Hopefully he's
found that better place. Stef Lach was the T1 if I recall, who went on
to bigger and brighter things with his music once he got the T1
diagnosis squareds away and settled into his routine.
Glass raised also to all absent friends met here over the years, and our

Patrick, how good it is to see you! I hope you're doing well. Yes, we
do remember him. I miss him and all of the people that are no longer
with us in the group. I wish you would post more often on this group.
I always enjoyed your sense of humor. :-)

Howdeedoo Cheri - i'm still around but have been elsewhere - newsgroups have
taken a back seat due to moving house amongst other things ... i'm still
afflicted with the same sense of humour though :) Last day at work today,
it's the 2nd time that i've had the entire festive season off work and i'm
really looking forward to being busy doing absolutely nothing!
How's things with you?

Oh i've been in the process of doing just that since about 5pm today when i
opened the first festive bottle of shiraz - i've been on a much slower rate
of consumption due to being absolutely shattered after working two 60 hour
weeks. However on the plus side it makes the break even more welcome - off
home on christmas day to spend it with the folks - will be nice to eat some
decent home cooking :)Got a very healthy bonus from work which was also very
much appreciated - it's nice when your boss tells you that you're doing a
good job AND rewards you for it too.

He in fact predates this newsgroup, but Carl Lydick and his quest for
truth - as opposed to spamming, cures that don't, and folks who refuse
to learn - inspires me to this day.
I knew him both in misc.healt.diabetes and real life.

Hey Beav,
I dont read these groups very often.
When did Alan Hardy pass and do you know anything else about it.
I met him at the IDDT conference in Birmingham in 2003. Had
lunch with him and Jude from CP. Nice bloke, explained a few key
points to me about unders and wickets. Big cricket fan.
Anything you post here or in (p) message would be appreciated.
all the best,
BNF

Alan is missed by those who knew him, and by those who never met
him..... he was a very supportive person
it's sad the number of people we have lost over the years
