Great! I am looking forward with mixed feelings to my first 3-month
tests, and hoping I do half as well as you've done.

And to you, Jay.

Way to go!
As far as the hdl try adding flax and fish oils into your diet along with
more fiber and see if that changes it.

Ummmm, cuz it's icky poo!!!! :D

The taste of all wines and champagne literally gag me. Try as I might, I
could never acquire the taste for either. Same for coffee. Allergic to tea
as well. Not that it is a big loss. As a general rule, I avoid caffeine and
alcohol.

I think I picked up all the recessive genes in my family. The only one
except the youngest kids that drink neither coffee nor tea. The alcohol is
no big deal. Too many uncles are alcoholics, and at a young age, just told
myself I didn't want to end up like that.

Oh, no, I love red wine. It's the exercise I can't stand. I need to become
better friends with my treadmill, but walking on it is really more boring
than watching paint dry.

FWIW - I started off with daily walking - basically got bored to tears.
I've since taken up bicycling - much more enjoyable as long as the weather
cooperates; and snowshoeing - if you're in an applicable climate, I highly
recommend you try it - "if you can walk, you can showshoe".

Well, we do get some snow but I've never heard of snowshoeing -- what is it,
you  go walking in the snow?

Thanks,

Jay

Well, first you get some snowshoes. They are sorta like tennis
raquets; a frame with mesh. They go on the bottom of your shoes/boots,
and when you walk on snow, you don't sink in.

It takes some practice, and you'll discover some interesting new
muscles for the first while, but as with any exercise, you'll get used
to having those muscles, and learn how to get into the rhythm of the
activity.

It's definitely fun, and if you are near areas with wildlife, there's
no better way to wander into the woods to see the critters.

Snowshoes were originally developed by the American Indians - you may have
seen pictures of folks walking with what looked a little like tennis
rackets strapped to their feet. Modern snowshoes are not much like that -
lots of high tech innovations - but basically, it is an aid for walking on
the snow without sinking in up to your hubcaps. Very simple to master.
There are a lot of 'nordic centers' around the country which rent
snowshoes as well as cross country skis. I really enjoy it. Did one hike
in Jan or Feb of '06 when I was out for several hours and got about 30-40
pictures. On a nice sunny day, it is just incredible. Last winter, here in
southeastern Idaho, we didn't have a lot of snow, so we only got out
three times - once to Harriman State Park, once to Grand Teton Nat'l Park,
and once in Yellowstone. In a good year, we have half a dozen great areas
withing about 15 miles.

Yup. TV is much nicer when I'm in my recliner and not on the treadmill  :-)

Can't you walk outside?
Even in bad weather, unless it's really ferocious, you can walk outdoors if
you get the proper clothing & shoes.
There are also mall-walking clubs you could check out.
But if you're stuck with a treadmill, how about a tv or an ipod to entertain
you.

I set my airwalker up in a position that lets me see the TV.
But I'm still bored out of my brain after too short a time.

Same here -- I can walk in the treadmill and watch T, and it's still more
interesting watching paint dry.

You are here, that's a great start. That's the great thing about this group
you will find. We are here for each other. Each of us have bad days, and
need the boost when all the things we have to watch get overwhelming. There
ARE a few exceptions, but just take things with a grain of salt like the
rest of us do.

Great news!! I applaud you. Keep up the good work. One area I still have
to kick myself on every once in a while is the exercise. Can't wait for
the snow to really start falling - I do relish the showshoeing - very
happy that we took that up two years ago. It's great exercise, uses about
twice the calories of hiking, and some of the photo ops are incredible!!
