We got a new Johnny Rockets near here and I decided to take my son to
lunch. The food was pretty good (he loved it... oh to have the unrefined
palette of a 7-year-old again!) but an hour after we got home I was at
151 and heading north fast. So, my dreams of a completely lazy Saturday
went out the window and I got on my sneakers and headed out the door
with the iPod.
Gotta say, I'm glad I did. I walked for 78 minutes (8476 aerobic steps
according to my Omron HJ-112) to an eclectic mix of Cake, Paul Simon,
Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong ("Summertime"), Uncle Rock (aka
Robert Burke Warren and a friend of mine), the Talking Heads and more. I
walked a few times around a small lake about a half mile away from home
watching a gaggle of cub scouts fishing and larger gaggle of ducks and
geese nervously watching them from across the way under blue skies with
a wonderful breeze blowing.
I would have kept on walking except I'd set myself an intense pace and
my legs feel like jelly and I want to save something for Waterfire
tonight (http://www.waterfire.org/).
The moral? I don't really have one except that sometimes if you don't
want to go exercise, do it anyway, you may surprise yourself. I had the
best 78 minutes I've had in a long time.

Heh - I did the opposite : ) My teens wanted to go rollerblading,
which is a sport I do NOT share with them. I dropped them off at the
dome, and started to walk into town, intending to spend about an hour
walking round admiring the architecture. At the top of the first hill,
an art gallery caught my eye; to my delight, they'd extended it with a
second-hand bookshop and a cafe since the last time I was in. I
combined the last two and simply read outside in the sunshine, until
plaintive children phoned to ask when I planned to pick them up : )
I did get a walk in after supper; a very, very brisk one, as it was
already getting dark when I headed out at 6:30 : (

That is great Andy !!! Well done :-) When I was more able I loved walking.
That is my exercise of choice. I felt great and never missed a day until my
disability. I hope to do more walking though so I can lose the weight. Keep
up the walking. It does have a way of making a person feel good. :-)
