My neighbors have earned a respite tonight although, since they sleep
through all my shenanigans, they don't realize it. I'm going to skip down to
the local Applebee's around ten thirty, or so, and have dinner there. It
will be fun picking through the menu for things I can eat. I've avoided the
place for a year (since diagnosis). I'm going there cause it's close to home
and will minimize the chances of my being thrown in jail for drunken driving
(I intend to glory in pre-dinner martinis - I mention this for those who
will, undoubtedly, criticize my stupidity in restaurant choices - i.e., "I
would never eat there because...."). Another reason I'm going there is
because I like to sit at the bar and eat cause the bartenders have great
tits (I throw this in cause I know it'll aggravate somebody and since I
won't be messing with the neighbors.... well, it's the next best thing :-)).

John, I just ate in apple bees the other day.  their menu is so varied
that there are so many things you can eat.  I went for lunch and had a
shrimp and spinach salad with a bowl of tomato soup.  It was perfectly
fine.  Also they have bite size desserts they call one bite and it was a
brownie and delicious an so small it didnt affect my numbers.  Portion
control and watch the starches.  They even have a weight watchers menu.

G'day G'day Loretta,

Bite size!?    I admire your restraint.

John was no doubt hoping for more of a bite.  <grin>

Shrimp can be a great choice, if not covered in dressing.

Best wishes,

Quentin, deprivation is not a word in my vocabulary, so I foudn what
works for me.  the brownie was actually two bites and it came with about
two tablespoons vaniulla ice cream.  I only had the soup for lunch and
took the shrimp home  I always have dressing on the side.
Unfortunatgely I had gone to the movies and left the salad in the
movies.

Applebees now has a deal soup and salad for 5.99 cant beat that.
I dont know if what I do works for others, I know it works for me.

G'day G'day Loretta,

I bet deprivation is a word in your vocabulary.
You spell it perfectly. <grin>   OK, I get what you mean.  As you have
explained before you'd rather have small portions of everything rather
than go without some food categories.  Others might not understand
that.  I do.  However we handle the situations a little differently.
For instance I don't eat chocolate brownies.  I do eat 70% cocoa solid
chocolate.

Different people, different strategies for exercising control.

Taking the shrimp home is something I find hard to imagine.  To me
shrimp are something delightful, exquisite in fact,  if one captures
their fresh flavour. Otherwise they are to my senses tasteless unless
flavoured by dressing.

Understandable.

I'm trying hard NOT to imagine someone sitting on that salad.
Hopefully it came to a less dramatic end.

That is what is important.  I know from old that you do exercise
discipline in your choices.  Others might find those choices harder to
follow since their motivation would be less strong.  It is then that
they must find another strategy, one that fits their motivational
strategies.

Best wishes, to you Loretta.  Keep up the good work.

Quentin, the salad was in a plastic container.  I took it into the
movies because it would have spoiled in the car.
I left it on the floor and wlaked out without it.

Next time I will eat the salad and take home the soup

we all have to control our diabetes the best way that it works for us.

I don't find deprivation a good thing for me either.

What movie did you & your salad see?

Donna, the movie I saw was superbad.  Normally I dont go to see that tye
of movie,  I had gone to see Being Jane with Jane Hathaway.  In ten
minutes I thought it was so boring that my friend and I lefrt and went
to see the suprbad in my opinion retarded movie.  What came out of the
mouths of these boys was unbelievable to me.  There were children in
there with their parents.  I said whats with that.

I dont recommend it at all unless it is the type of movie someone likes,
My friend said it is like animals house.
