anonymouse - 12 Aug 2007 18:14 GMT just wondering what you folks keep on the bedside table to take in case you get midnight lows
do you all get up and measure first or just get some food down ?
i use jelly babies (like jelly beans) which i can eat without leaving much sugar on the teeth and so obviating the need to brush teeth afterwards. they are 28 calories each and either 1 or 2 will do the trick at 4am in the morning
i found cutting these lows out helped prevent the bounce back when i get up at 8am for breakfast
how do i tell if i'm low - well the usual signs plus in my case a ringing in the ears which is loudest when i'm lowest. weird eh?

I don't test my blood sugar in the middle of the night if I am low. I just treat. I wake up very sweaty and feeling shaky if I go low in the night. I have found that my blood sugar in the morning is better if I go low during the night - go figure.

Loretta Eisenberg - 12 Aug 2007 20:32 GMT Mouse, I personally have never had a midnight low. Is that after you have gone to sleep, or are you up. I believe most of us have some kind of before bedtime snack to prevent liver dumping in themorning or a low at night.
I see on my night table now that I have half a zone bar, the whole thing has 22 carbs so I guess my half is eleven carbs.
Loretta
mancman - 12 Aug 2007 21:13 GMT yeah the lows range from 2.30am say to 5am but the later the low before waking up the more effective the sweet is that i take so i therefore take less for a low at 5am than one at 2.3am

No refrigeration needed until opened etc. Here they come in 200ml and 250ml and 1 litre fridge pack sizes usually. The smaller ones are handy for kids' lunch boxes.

Frank t2 - 14 Aug 2007 00:24 GMT <sigh> Now I am a pretty old man, I have Nadya beside me in bed. She is half my age, pregnant and very happy with me after four years of marriage. At 19 weeks pregnant, she does an enormous amount of work around the house and I am eternally grateful that we met. I do, however, draw the line at her carrying or moving heavy objects.
Just another example that happiness CAN be found after 60 years of age.

About a week ago when it was so hot and sunny in Edinburgh that even a few men were exposing their bare limbs in the streets I was taking some architectural photographs with some professional looking camera gear. I was approached by two pretty young half-naked "happinesses" who were convinced that only the bad luck of not having met the right photographer was preventing their careers as famously pretty young things from taking off. They offered to pay me in kind for taking some glamour photographs of them which I would submit to newspapers in order to kickstart their careers.
I was, however, convinced they were bunking off school and lying about their ages :-)
Unfortunately pretty old women are mostly rather averse to being photographed :-(

Americans killed in the occupation of Iraq as of August 13, 2007 is 3,690. United Kingdom = 168 Other = 129.
How many more Americans must die to satisfy Bush's ego? Let us all pray for Bush - God knows he needs it!
As of Augest 13, 2007 it has been 1566 days since Bush while standing in front of the banner which was sent to the ship by the White House saying MISSION ACCOMPLISHED declared,"In the Battle of Iraq, the United States and our allies have prevailed." IOW MISSION ACCOMPLISHED.
Isn't Bush's "surge" of troops working well? Pay attention to the frequency of American deaths since it began.

I've never had a midnight low, nor am I in bed at midnight unless I am sick. If I have a hypo it's usually after dinner and before my bedtime snack. I keep some jelly beans and Swedish Fish next to my computer and also some candy in my purse, van and kitchen, just in case.
