I had a small portion of oatmeal this morning at about 9 30.  I went out
of the house and got back about 1.  about 1 15, I started having the
shakes and nervous, feeling weak and dizzy.  I tested because I thought
for sure I was low.  What I saw was a shock,  It said 163.  I tested
twice.

did I possibly have a liver dump.

I ate some crackers as though it were a low and I feel better.

this is very strange to me.

Oh, dear Loretta, please take better care of yourself ..
You want me to be stuck with THIS GANG ... without you help ?
No, I thought not ..
Some reflections come to mind (I leave the real analysis to the experts
here)

You had oatmeal in the morning after 12 hrs of fasting and thought it
would be enough ?  You and I must have totally different constitutions !

Did you then have 4 hrs of exercise (walking ? Shopping?) and figure
you would not have a hypoglycemic efffect ?

Hmmmm .. someone needs their bottom paddled !

Well, I simply cannot eat oatmeal, because it spikes me.... Loretta's high
numbers happen to me also, whenever I eat oatmeal. Even when I have a
sandwich made with rye, I start feeling bad about 30-40 minutes later, with
high blood glucose levels. Many of us really, really have to watch it.

I have found that for me, only a low carb diet really works.....

Hi Will, hope you are having a nice day.

I have no trouble with oatmeal ever,  Maybe it is the portion I eat.  I
buy the instant packages.  This is something completely different that
happened.  As I state in the previous post, I treated the hyper as
though it was a hypo and had some crackers, and I was quickly down to
115

Well, Loretta, I am very glad for you that it was only a passing thing....

I learned that I just cannot do more than a few small bites of oatmeal,
without risking a spike....

Maybe you had such a small amount that it quickly came back down, of its own
accord. Don't forget about the salubrious benefits of the beyetta, also....

Yes, it has been a delightful day down here in Virginia Beach.... The high
for the day was only about 76, which was a very welcome relief from the
oppressive heat we have been having all week.

Tonight, I am planning to watch the Rusell Crowe movie, "Master and
Commander".... It is supposed to be good. The musical theme is in the
repertoire of the small choral group that I sing with. It is really a very
easy piece, musically.... I like doing it acapella, rather than with
accompaniment, because it seems more pure that way.

I hope you are having a very pleasant evening, up there in Brooklyn. By the
way.... I noticed there was a tornado up there in the last couple of days. I
do hope it did not hit near where you are.

Will, it is the first time in recorded history that a tornado hit
Brooklyn  I was so shocked.  I always lived here with a sense of
security that natural disasters dont happen here.  With all the global
warning, the world is going crazy.  i live one block off the atlantic
ocean.  I now th ink that a tsunami could hit and wash me out of the
23rd floor window.

Master and Commander was very good, but it is gory and I closed my eyes
for most of it.

I think I even walked out of the movie,  I couldnt handle it.

by the way, I just got my book by Yehuda Berg.

I thoroughly enjoyed it, although not all may. I have been a
Patrick O'Brien fan for many years ad have read most of the
Aubrey books. Unfortunately the movie messes up the plots of
the two merged books a bit, but the effects and the action
are brilliant.

I believe your day would have gone very differently with a couple of
scrambled eggs. The protein would have given you a long lasting slow
output of blood sugar such that your liver might never have dumped on you.

Too many of my mornings have been ruined by oatmeal.

Ahh, now I get it.  This has happened to me.  I felt low on the ride down,
wasn't really low when I tested but ate anyway because I felt so low and
then tested and was not high from the eating.  I require insulin with all
carbs eaten, so the fact that I didn't go high from the eating proves (to me
anyway) that I was on my way down.  My hypo symtoms are different when this
happens, than my usual hypo symptoms.

The oatmeal had twenty five carbs so I thought that would be fine,
Frank.

my fbg was 94 this morning.  I did do more walking than I usually do and
while I was at my destination, there was a lot of sitting and standing.
sit down, get up, sit down, get up, for two hours.

I am on byetta and I dont get lows so I think my theory is right

After I ate the crackers,  I went down to 115 in about a half hour

I'm thinking more likely you had a big spike, followed by a sudden drop.

Yeah but she had'nt eaten in four hours and was running about..which is
usually what gets me in trouble.

Would suggest you inform your doctor about your new symptoms.

It is possible you had a TIA (transient ischemic attack) or "pre-
stroke."

Be hungry... be healthy... be blessed:
