Jolanna - 10 Aug 2007 23:53 GMT My latest A1C is 5.2! She is so worried about me getting too low now, so she dropped my Lantus dose a bit. At first she talked about taking me off it and replacing it with Glyburide. After a bit of discussion, I decided i would rather take the Lantus than more horse pills. I have trouble swallowing all the pills I take anyway. And I just added 1200mg Fish Oil that is huge. Good thing it is slick for swallowing; but I would hate for it to go down crossways! (I don't care much for fish so the capsule gets me Omega 3).
And I have lost a total of 34 pounds since diagnosis last year! All my numbers are great and even my latest EKG. But I still need to get to the eye doctor this month. My PCP is so proud of me and says to keep doing what i have been doing.
Had an exciting ending to my time at the clinic. I was standing at the desk making my next apointment, when my oxy tank started very loudly spewing oxygen. I immediately leaped as far as the tubing would let me, and the people in the waiting room all jumped and started hollering. One woman was an EMS and she and a man ran to the tank and tried to shut it off. Well, the regulator shuts off easily but it was not leaking from there, and the tank key was at home. so they grabbed the tank to take it outside for safety and I barely got the tubing off my face in time. By then the office girl had found their key and finally got the thing shut down. But it didn't have much of anything left in it by then. When I got home my son examined it and the little plastic washer thing had broken. You would think they would use something a little better than cheap brittle plastic. After all, my insurance is paying $342 a month for all my oxy supplies plus the concentrator rental.

I think my progress is due a lot to all the gardening I do every day. My regular exercises I set aside till winter. Gardening does everything anyway. Bending and stretching the hams and flexibility, etc. Dragging the hose around, and pushing my garden cart. I am a lot stronger than I was a year ago. But still weaker than I used to be when young. The other day my son handed me a wood clamp and said squeeze it. I tried, even with two hands, and couldn't budge it. But he can squeeze it like I do a hair clip. <boggle>

It is only when folks lose their bad "inside" fat (visceral adipose tissue or VAT) that the insulin resistance is cured.
Only when we are hungry does our bodies get rid of the VAT:

Steve O - 11 Aug 2007 22:05 GMT I read your website and your diet plan. As a fit Type 1 diabetic - also a Christian - who has remained complication free for 40 years I find your approach simplistic and foolish. I also noticed that you included me on a website of convicted individuals where you place anyone who disagrees with you. Not only are you a fool but you don't appear to have the slightest understanding of theology or the New Testament. A shame that you can be smart in some ways - I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt that your medical and educational credentials are real - and utterly stupid in others. You obviously read books? Why don't you start with this one and then maybe we can have a slightly intelligent conversation.

You are not listed for disagreeing with me but for being convicted by HIM:

My name is Rod, I am a type 2 that has started the 2 PD Omer approach and I am starting to lose some weight, which is what I hoped for, and it is helping me. Allow me to ask you this question; if the LORD were to want to communicate with you today, how do you think He would do that? Would His attempt to do so be impeded by your willingness to accept only certain methods of communication ? Have you ever in your life, no matter how briefly, been touched by the Holy Spirit or even been granted the privilege of being in His Presence ? I know this seems off topic, but where human health is an issue the one to go to ultimately is the Designer, wouldn't you say?
Rod

Steve O - 12 Aug 2007 20:10 GMT Rod,
Are you an evangelical? I only ask because you appear to ask questions of me and give me your beliefs at one and same time. Are you asking me a question about communication OR are you telling me something. Dialogue is one method of communication. Preaching is quite another. I often ask myself this when I ponder how God communicates with me: If God is a "Designer" does he design like an architect and then tells his tenants where and how to live? Is he a different designer for the Muslims, Buddhists & Hindus? Or is he like an artist who creates and then let's people intrepret their life in their own way? Besides, if he is all knowing he already knows all the the possibilities, doesn't he? God communicates with all of us in HIS own way. Not in a manner that is known to just a select group. Many rivers going into one ocean. Or perhaps you should quote a biblical passage to me and "beg the question" one more time. If that is the case maybe I'll look thru the Bhagavad Gita or the Koran or the even the New Testament - after all they have three different perspectives on divorce in the synoptical gospels - to dispute what you have to say. Man created dogma. I like what Ghandi had to say:
"...I think you find, my friend, that there is enough room on the sidewalk for all of us."
So how does God communicate with me? I don't know as I'm not in a constant dialogue with anyone....but I'm sure I'll hear it when HE does. Because it will be meant for me and not you. And vice-versa.

I only ask because you appear to ask questions
> of me and give me your beliefs at one and same time. Some very basic beliefs, yes, but as much interested in yours, particularly if you have been fortunate enough to encounter and know the Holy Spirit when He touches you and your life.
As I said, I am only a follower of Christ and a believer. I am not associated with any denomination or sect.
Are you asking me a
> question about communication OR are you telling me something. Dialogue > is one method of communication. Preaching is quite another. I often ask [quoted text clipped - 18 lines] > So how does God communicate with me? I don't know as I'm not in a > constant dialogue with anyone....but I'm sure I'll hear it when HE does. You may not hear it at all, or you may. I'll tell you what I know for fact, the accepting of it is up to you. I first "heard" the voice of God as a "lite touch on my soul", deep inside. He spoke without saying a word, all His communication with me was thru what I can only describe as "touch", but to this day I recognize that "touch" just as I recognized it again recently on usenet.
Yes, Steve, I can be labeled a nut case and quackers, or you can accept what I've told you at face value. I've been searching a very long time for God, and I've never found Him in a building of stone and wood but in the streets and alleyways where misery lives, He is there healing and calling people to Himself.
God is not just a Creator, He is the Healer of all Healers.
> Because it will be meant for me and not you. And vice-versa. One day I hope you will have a firsthand encounter with Him, as it is so wonderful that it defies my attempts at describing it. Even being surrounded by atheists and despicable people of all walks of life, I has to share this with you. I sensed doubt in your words. You never know when or if God will suddenly show up on your doorstep.
Religion seems fine for some people, if thats all they aspire to have. I wanted more of life....and life FOUND me! In a big way..

When I needed to choose a name for the second account, I spent a week trying to think of something I liked. then I remembered reading a book as a teenager, lo, these many years ago, and that was a name in the book. I liked it very much and wished it was mine. You know how teens never like their names, and want to be someone besides theri parent's child. I think it is a process of cutting the apron strings. Anyway, I have no idea now what the book was. I just remember the name.
And awhile back I needed a third user id and had to think of a new name. I wanted Crystal; but it was already taken. So I thought, and then had an idea. I chose Crysilda. I think that is so pretty, and is an alternate spelling of an old name.

I have COPD. Oxy is for life, along with Spiriva inhaler. In fact, while I was at the clinic, we did a test. My pulse-ox was fluctuating between 91-92. So, while they were prepping me and taking the EKG, the oxy was shut off. Maybe 15 minutes just lying there quietly. Then they tested my pulse-ox again and it was already down to 87! That shocked me that it would go down that far so fast while I was doing nothing. I remember when I first went on oxy over a year ago at the ER, my pulse-ox was down to 79, and my thinking processes were plain loopy.

I am so sorry to hear about the COPD.... That is bad stuff! I guess you are taking great care to avoid things to which you may be allergic.
I have several clients who have COPD, and some days are definitely worse than others, depending upon allergins that may be around, heat, humidity, etc.
I really do not know what to suggest, except to keep doing what you are doing that is obviously working so well for you.... Getting the weight down and the BG under control will make it much easier on your system, as you struggle with the breathing difficulties.

Will, T2 - 12 Aug 2007 00:48 GMT > Uh, COPD is Emphysema. Caused by many years of smoking. The only > allergies I have are ragweed and a couple meds I tried. Well, I guess there can be several causes... I did not want to make any assumptions. For instance, I have a client who got it from exposure to chemicals in the military. Another one got it as a result of asbestos exposure, as part of his broader condition of asbestosis. Another lady got it from contracting some sort of viral infection in her lungs from birds.... Many people tell me that their allergies, as well as weather conditions affect it. I have also known firemen who say they got it from exposure to smoke and substances encountered while fighting fires, etc. And I agree, tobacco smoking seems to be right up there in the case histories of many of the people who get COPD.
Whatever your situation, I truly wish you all the best in dealing with it. From working with people with COPD, I do know it is a very challenging condition.

Yes, it is. I am certified Disabled, so I can stay home and live my life the way I want. And I live way out in the boondocks, so life is peaceful and quiet. No time clocks, deadlines, office politics, or other stressful things. Sometimes I get aggravated at the oxy tubing, especially when I step on it and yank my ears. But on the whole, my life is great.
