Been on 10 mcg Byetta for 3 months now and just got back A1c results.
3 months ago 8.3.  Today 6.4.  Have lost 27 lbs. in the process.

No major side effects from the Byetta, other than 'fullness' feeling.

Dx: June 2002.
Rx: 2500mg Metformin and 40 mg Actos

Good job!  That Lizard Spit really works, huh!

I was able to get OFF the Actos, and while it took what felt like an
eternity, finally got rid of the bloating and weight that it gave me.
Back to 2,000 mg Metformin and my Spit.  Last A1c was 6.8, down from
8.2 and lost a couple dozen pounds, dropped from a 44 waste to a 40 or
42, and doing better all the time.  Spit took me from more bad days
than good, to almost all good days.
I can't say enough good things about it.

The 10mg Lizard-Spit Approach is not a diet.
It does help people manage their Diabetes Mellitus (DM) possibly
preventing long-term complications resulting from poor control.
Bottom line: It remains wise to be peanut-free.

May your BG and A1c get better, dear neighbor whom I communicate with
unconditionally.

Be well, travel with a light heart and a low A1c  [Gene, 3:16]

Soverby, isnt byetta wonderful.  You have attained great results and
even better will be coming soon.

I am on byetta and I am going to endo tomorrow for my results.  Last
time I was 5.7 I hope I maintained it.

Great results. Apart from Byetta, what changes in lifestyle
have you made?

Great news......

I went to the doctor today after a one month trial on the 5mcg. My
sugars levels have never been better. (even with lowcarbing, meds and
exercising they were high). BUT she left me on the 5mcg since my
readings are so good. That does not seem typical. She said, why take
more if it is working.

I don't take Byetta myself, but I try to follow some of the
discussions about it because it seems to be related to Amylin/Symlin
which I might take someday.

If I look at the Byetta prescribing information, there is a
substantially greater risk of hypo if someone takes it with metformin
or a Sulfonylurea. Don't know if you fall into that category.

The same company that makes Byetta also makes Symlin. Symlin
(pramlitide) has an amino acid substitution so that it does not form
islet amyloid plaque.  IAPP is the acronym for islet amylin polypeptide.
Amylin is co-secreted with insulin from the pancreatic beta-cells.
Some of the effects of Byetta include a reduction in the proinsulin to
insulin ratio (so that more of the proinsulin becomes a completed
insulin) and first phase insulin tends to be restored.  The improved
insulin secretion inturn results in suppression of glucagon by insulin
and consequently the liver produces less glucose by gluconeogenesis.
Another effect of Byetta is delayed gastric emptying so that the carbs
do not get processed as quickly.

This may be true of sulfonylureas which simulate insulin secretion, but
not that common with metformin.
