Fallen arches - other feet stuff

Podiatrist said fallen arches was just one of the problems with my feet.  I
have I guess hip deformities that cause me to walk in the insides of my feet
which attribute to my bad calluses and feet aches and problems.  Also, there
are many fatty tumors in there, and a bunion.  I also have the neuropathy.
He sent me for some ax-rays, and took impressions for possible esthetics.
Question about feet pain and fallen arches.  Anybody found any relief?  So
far, massage and that diabetic foot lotion seems to help me the most, but I
thought you all might have some suggestions.

Some things that have helped me are:

- keeping my blood sugars in tight control
- taking ALA, EPO and vitamin C
- icing the bottoms of my feet twice daily
-rubbing toothepaste for sensitive teeth on my feet twice daily.

I really was disabled with pain before I started all of this.  Once I
figured out that I had neuropathy on top of my other heinous foot problems,
I called it neuropathy with something for the nerves to really scream about.

Another thing I have done is to change my own gait.  After a bunch of
orthotics and some surgeries were tried, on the last pair of orthotics tried
the doctor told me that he was trying to tip my feet over to the other side.
The orthotics didn't tip my feet over enough, but I discovered that I could
tip my own feet over myself better than the orthotics could just by thinking
about it when walking and standing.  That helped alot.  It becomes second
nature after awhile.  I was surprised though that after I got out of the
coma, my body had forgotten my new walk, and I had to retrain it.

There are drugs for neuropathy too that you could try.  Lyrica and Neurontin
are 2 that I can think of.  Just getting the neuropathy pain relieved should
be a great relief.

Kris, are fallen arches and flat feet the same.  I have flat feet since
birth.  I had to wear special shoes that were so ugly and they never
helped.

My daughter has flat feet and no one said anything about special shoes.
Did you have arches and they fell?

That's just the term the doctor and podiatrist used.  I heard the doctor say
that I probably had some arches at one time.  I don't ever remember having
arches.  I guess things can make condition worse like:  weight, going
barefoot, shoes too small over time, etc.  It seems to be about the same
thing to me, but I don't really know.  I just know the podiatrist said there
was not much he could do.

Fallen arches would refer to flexible flat foot.  When a foot has an arch
when it is just at rest, but has no arch when it is bearing weight, that is
a fallen arch.

What I read before is that to have a flat foot congenitally that is not a
flexible flat foot is not as bad of an issue as flexible flat foot.

I myself have had flexible flat foot since I was a small child (and had more
foot problems since birth).  For me I think my connective tissue is just
naturally too flexible.  It makes birthing super easy that way, but is not
so good orthopedically.  I too wore corrective shoes and/or shoe inserts as
a child.

As far as them not treating your daughter for flat foot, if it is not
flexible flat foot no treatment is needed.  Truly, even for my flexible flat
foot all the treatments they ever did only caused me more problems.  I have
let them nowhere near my one daughter who has feet like mine.  Her feet are
faring much better than mine with me keeping her in less supportive shoes
rather than more.  Less support works the muscles, more support atrophies
the muscles which is not a good thing to do to a growing foot.

Interesting!  My dad has non flexible flat feet, as does my brother.  When
we were kids, he used to try to bend our shoes.  If they could be bent, we
were not allowed to have them.  I have high arches and flexible feet.  So
for me, those stiff shoes were murder.

KC that is very interesting.  Unfortunately I dont know if I hae
flexible or non flexible flat feet.  I just remember being three and
sitting with my feet in plaster of paris to make molds.

everyone made fun of my shoes
