johnniemccoy@ - 07 Aug 2007 23:07 GMT Ok! I just searched "vinegar" in Google Groups (this group), and there they were, a gazillion post, through the years, about vinegar lowering bgs. So, while I was patting myself on the back. expecting to receive a, resounding, "Go to the head of the class" for my new discovery, all you regulars were snickering and IM'ing each other messages like, "Ole Dufus John is at it again." Alright, I'll go sit in the back.

The important thing is that you learned something from your OWN experience, and in the process, you helped educate lots of other folks....
Did you know that several historical figures swore upon the healthful benefits of vinegar?Lt. Gen. Francis Marion (1732-1795), of Revolutionary War fame, was known to keep a dilute mixture of vinegar in his canteen at all times.... He probably was not a diabetic, but perhaps he did realize some benefit from it.

The key to being able to remember is total concentration in everyday moments of daily life. It is just a habit that has been with me since birth. Tich Nhat Hanh calls it "mindfullness".
Yes, I am driven to research anything and everything of remote interest for a couple of hours every day. Some of the stuff I share with this group is mostly new research. Other things are things from 20-30 years ago. And still other items are from ancient history, of which I am a student.
As you may have gleaned, I read a lot, and I have thousands of books in my home, but there is a lot more to it than that...
I don't want to seem to brag...

John
Will, T2 - 08 Aug 2007 01:38 GMT >Too bad we don't understand that when we're young. Those who do become >lawyers and those who don't become, well.... me. lol Hi John,
Don't feel bad... Most lawyers would not know what I am talking about either... Being able to think fast on your feet is a huge advantage;-)
What I am talking about is a state of mind that enables a person to remember virtually everything he/she has ever experienced and bring it up on demand in "recall mode" so to speak. Plus, I normally read at about 1,000 wpm.... That also helps a little, I think.
Don't get me wrong, sometimes I get distracted, like anyone else, so I do not claim perfect 100% memory. The key, however, is in the ability to concentrate.
It is a habit of mind, and something many people could train themselves to do... For whatever reason, it was simply part of my approach to life from day one. I really do not think of myself as smarter, or better... But being able to remember things and think under pressure really helps. It has meant the difference between life and death on several occasions.
Will, T2
Loretta Eisenberg - 08 Aug 2007 13:46 GMT will, I just got the secret , concentration and unfortunately for me my mind is so clouded with stuff, that my ability to concentrate has diminished greatly and I dont retain anything. I can read an article and not know one thing I read, five minutes later.
I wonder if it is the meds I take.
Loretta
KC - 08 Aug 2007 07:53 GMT >> The key to being able to remember is total concentration in everyday >> moments of daily [quoted text clipped - 4 lines] > > John I just think different people are different. Like Will said he has been like that since birth. I am not like that. I focus on what I am focusing on, and am not mindful of the rest. I have always been like that. I guess we could all try to change how we are, but that wouldn't be as much fun as just being who we are.
KC
Will, T2 - 08 Aug 2007 16:14 GMT > I guess > we could all try to change how we are, but that wouldn't be as much fun as > > just being who we are. I agreee, KC, and the idea of genuineness comes to mind... We have all know and have seen people who seem rather shallow and fake. I think if a person is genuine, not only does that person have more fun, but those around him/her have more fun, too. I like you just the way you are KC, as long as you are having fun! I am sure your husband must feel the same way.
The epitaph on my tombstone shall read, "He had a pretty good time."

Loretta Eisenberg - 08 Aug 2007 19:53 GMT Will, are you serious about your epitatph. I have giv en my daughter instructions. First, it was going to be she always tries to do the right thing and then it went to she is one mean son of a bitch. lol

Yes, I am fairly serious about the epitaph... I have had what I would consider a fun and interesting life. It could have been far worse, and the best part is that it is still in progress! If I live to break 80, I shall add a line that says, "He had no enemies, for he outlived them all." ;-)

If there was a gurney around the house, we could bypass the hospital completely. The crematorium is at the end of our street. :-)

Actually, that is about the way to do it, Vicky, although if it is feasible, my family have been instructed to hire a helicopter and drop me into an active volcano... nothing like going out with a bit of flare ;-)
The tombstone idea was just to have something for people to look at, to know that "Will was here", so to speak.... not like "Kilroy was here", but something like that! Ha, etc.

KC - 09 Aug 2007 08:09 GMT >> I guess >> we could all try to change how we are, but that wouldn't be as much fun [quoted text clipped - 12 lines] > > Will, T2 Aww, thanks. I like you just the way you are too. It's very good having people like you around to answer my questions on the issues I am focused on.
You do remind me of my husband alot because besides the reading dictionaries and encyclopedias that I mentioned. He is particularly mindful of things too. I think that he has a photographic memory. It is very convenient when I am looking for lost things. We are polar opposites in the mindful issue as I am really on the far end of the unmindfulness, but we have alot of common interests and values, so that difference doesn't matter.
Even the epitaph reminds me of something my husband would say. He frequently refers to our ride on the rock and wanting to enjoy it and wanting to do it our way. I'll agree with you and him that having a good time is very important.

Ok I experimented a lot on myself and I also tried the vinegar thing.I used balsamico , made dressings myself etc. After about a year of the combination of mostly uncooked , raw , hard veggies with the acid vinegar there were groves in all my teeth. The enamel was eroded.I noticed that when the groves were so deep that they almost touched the nerves down in my teeth and became painful .Yes.I know.Very stupid. The dentist had to make them a little deeper to apply the plastic for repair. The dentist is a good friend I know for years. When I was in the dentist chair I saw him writing something.I said : what are you writing. He said : I will send you to the hospital because I can not completely anaesthetise you here.I said : then do it without anasthetic. He said : but that is medieval ! I will have to hit the nerves in about 5 or 6 of your teeth.I will not do that to one of my bests friends.I said well.... lets try I'm here anyway. And you know... it was not all that painfull afterall. My pain threshold must have shifted because of the neuropathy in my hands and feet.Good intentions but a bit wrong results :(
So Take care.Avoid the vinegar before going to bed.Don't do it in combination with hard , raw , veggies.Flush your mouth with water or even better something that will neutralise the acid like alka salzer.Check your teeth regularly Gys

Weird.I don't know why.
One other thing If you pour the vinegar on the baby ribs and put them on the BBQ , like you did in the thread down at our feet now , the acid will hydrolyse the protein. Now the baby ribs are converted to amino acids.And....amino acids will greatly reduce your bg (and cause a lot of satiety , so you will stop craving...).Especially the branched amino acids. Also good for building muscle. In itself good for your bg.
When the proces has ended your vinegar is gone.Any effect from vinegar/baby ribs does not come from vinegar I think (?)
Just my 2 cents Gys

Thanks for the tip > and the other info. Like your grandmother I also use it to make meat tender. If I make a stew from beef I fry the beef shortly in butter , than add a lot of vinegar , put the lid on and keep it on low heat for several hours. You don't have to be afraid that it will taste awful to vinegar because the vinegar will both evaporate and be neutralised by the beef. The beef will become very tender.I than add the other ingredients like onions , bell peppers , garlic
Also works with ribs of course Gys
