I love carambolas on my salad but haven't been able to find them in a while.
I just Googled them to see when they were in season... got a little
supprise. I guess I'm off carambola. You might want to check before eating
them.

Howdy John,

No need to be dissapointed, just eat what works for you and where you
like to keep your bg.  I like them myself and eat them when their
cheap (hell I'm cheap what can I say?).

But the warnings on the fruit are valid ones as would any food info
for people that might have a problem or taking meds that might be
effected by eating a lot of it.

That sentence about diabetics having to avoid carambola seemed suspect
to me... kinda general and not qualified. So I looked up carambola in
the USDA nutrient database. According to them, one large carambola
(124 g) has 8.35 g of carb, 3.5 of which are fiber. That doesn't seem
so bad to me.

When I was growing up in Florida, we had a carambola tree in our back
yard, and it bore fruit twice a year. We enjoyed them quite a bit.

Thanks, Cindy. Yeah, I love em, too. What worries me is the part about med
interaction. I'm in St. Pete but I haven't seen any trees around.

Oh, I see! We lived on the other coast, in Boca Raton, but carambola
trees weren't really common there either. We got it from an exotic
nursery.

In any case, I understand how you feel. I miss grapefruit from time to
time!
