Question on coffee and cinnamon

I have read that some studies note the decrease in blood sugar by using
cinnamon and coffee, esp. for type two diabetes. My BIL, a type 2, never
heard of this. I also read conflicts where cinnamon is harmless and yet  may
be toxic if ingested more than 1/2 tsp daily. Any input, suggestions or
experience appreciated.

Thanks

I put a little cinnamon on my breakfast.  Recommended dose is no more
than 1 gram, and the wisdom on the street is that cinnamon tea is as
good.  I think it helps a bit, and if you can tolerate a cereal
breakfast (not for everyone, I know) it makes it more interesting.
The carcinogenic properties of small doses are quite slight.  There
again, I still need to take the exercise, metformin, and the lowcarb
diet... And if you don't lower your sugars, you won't last long enough
to get the cancer anyway...

I've seen some gains using cinnamon (IMO). I take one 500mg capsule per day
or sprinkle some in my tea.
My total cholestrol:                        163 in 2005, 152 in 2006, 151 in
2007.
My Triglycerides:                             99 in 2005,  52  in 2006,  46
in 2007.
My LDL's :                                      105 in 2005,  99  in 2006,
93 in 2007.

YMMV

Excellent improvements. Is cinnamon the only thing you
changed over those years?

I pretty much do everything the same as I always have. I don't exercise
anymore or any less(30 mins 3-4 times a week). I eat about a 80-100 carbs a
day.
I was just getting my cinnamon from sprinkling it on toast or in my tea, but
now I mostly take a 500mg capsule.

Well, your results are excellent - but I think they owe more
to that consistent diet and exercise than to cinnamon. But,
anyway - keep doing what you're doing:-)

Probably  I know when I run out of cinnamon and forget to pickup more, my BG
goes up slightly(5 - 10 md/gL). I'm only assuming the other numbers are
going up too, since I don't have a lab in my house. lol  Even if it's
placebo, it can be a powerful tool and I'll take any help I can get. ;-)

Coffee and other things containing caffeine can raise BG.  Cinnamon is
purported to lower BG but in my case the opposite was true.  It raised mine.

My wife decided that cinnamon was the "latest" cure for diabetes. She
cures me every couple of months. It has not made a difference that i
can see, but it tastes great in my oatmeal and on my waffles.

I envy you. I've not eaten a waffle since the second time I
tested after one.

Don't have them in front of me, but I've done pretty well with Eggo
Multi Grain Low Fat. I have two maybe twice a week. They taste great
and don't make my BS go too high.

Thanks. Unfortunately it is also true. Everytime she hears about a
cure she believes it. She also believes that the info commercial guy
(don't know his name)who sells nutrition books and claims to cure
diabetes really does. i told her, if he really cured diabetes he would
be on THE NEWS, not an infomercial AND we would know his name. In
fact, we'd all worship him.
