I wouldn't. The only thing I would miss is the people in this
newsgroup. They are really the only people who know the day to day
stuff that all diabetics deal with. No, diabetes is not the best thing
that ever happened to me, as some people say, but I know it's not the
worst thing that will ever happen to me either. Many others here have
multiple problems, and I'm sure that they wish that diabetes was their
only problem. I'm grateful for my mostly good health. :-)

Good post, Cheri. I think, if I suddenly didn't have diabetes, I probably
wouldn't change the things I now do and the way I eat. Except for an
occasional laspe, I really enjoy the way I eat now. I would, however, really
get back into full, triditional, recipe Italian food.

I would be big on potatoes John. I have found good substitutes, but
I've never met a potato I didn't like. I do feel so much better now in
the past years, no heartburn, no swollen ankles, or any of those
things...but the mind does wander back...if you know what I mean. :-)

Have you tried sweet potato or Jerusalem artichoke fries? Make 'em
thick and oven baked, and they're positively healthy...

Nicky.

Thanks for the reminder - I haven't done oven-baked sweet
potato chips (thick like fries) for a while. Time to start
again.

I wasn't sure the first time I was offered them but it worked for me.
Hot crunchie french fries dipped in whole grain mustard mayonnaise
Yummm!
I no longer order then for myself.  I try and persuade some one else
to order them then 'steal' a couple from their plate.  The friends of
diabetics become very good at sharing:-)

well that's not plain salad dressing mayo.  sounds like something
worth trying on more than just fries.

I think a food's country of origin should reserve the right to determine
what a food is supposed to be dipped in. Otherwise, there would be chaos.

Loretta,
Belgians eat a lot of this, often while walking around,
(very popular, especially in "La Grande Place" where
the Mannekin Pis is located) and Belgium is the source
of some of the best beers ever tasted !

I wouldn't.

I guess I wouldn't miss the relentless routine but it is also true
that I now eat more enjoyable and healthy food.

Early in my diabetes journey I read a post (Alan S?) which made the
point that if one has to have a restricted diet then restrict it to
delicious foods.  Now I eat small portions of expensive fish, prawns,
calamari, smoked salmon and lean fillet steak.  I eats heaps of
mushrooms, asparagus, capsicums, and other delicious vegetables.
Whereas before I might have had a couple of glasses of mediocre wine I
now have one glass of a really great wine.

This group has also become important to me.  When I am down I can
always count on someone posting something which makes me laugh out
loud.

BUT If I were no longer diabetic ---------then I would eat baked rice
pudding with raisins on cold winter days :-)

Interesting about winter days. The only food I miss is
rolled oats porridge on a winter morning, made with sultanas
and milk and honey...*sigh*

And yes, I remember that - and I still follow that
philosophy. I eat better and more enjoyably than I ever did
pre-diagnosis.

I didn't know that Australia had cold winter days.

Recently, where I live,  the temperature didn't get UP to zero degrees
centigrade for three days in a row.  But I guess some Canadian can
report colder days.

If I am going to the pool to swim lengths after breakfast then I have
a small portion of rolled oats porridge -and swim a few extra lengths
afterwards!  It's worth it!

Australia is a little bigger than most realise; resembles
Canada that way:-)

Right now overnight in Cairns it is warm and balmy - but
that's several thousand km north of here on the 28th
parallel where it's a little nippy at 12C, although it will
be 22C tomorrow afternoon. About 1500km South, and 1000
metres higher, in Perisher Valley it's probably snowing and
they're looking forward to a good day on the slopes
tomorrow:
