The "cure" happens long before weight loss and loss of vat in the surgery examples, most likely as a result of the greatly increased incretin levels. Diet and exercise alone without eating less, down to the optimal amount, does not achieve the loss of visceral adipose tissue (VAT) that is required to achieve a cure. Only 1/3 of those with excess vat and other symptoms in a similar range proceed to diabetes because of the genetics involved. "Moreover, your incretin causes cancer." As a promoter of cell growth it can contribute in some specific situations, likewise by genetic predisposition in abnormal situations. It like many other promoters of cell growth are necessary for normal human development and cellular replacement. For examples incretins are a direct cause of the lining of the gut. In the case of diabetes they are required for beta cell replacement and repair as required.
