I was afraid this would happen. Doctor wants me on Simvastatin (Zocor).
She wants me to start on a 40mg dose...isn't that kind of high? I don't
like what I read and research about the statins, but I guess I am going to
have to do this. I have tried working really hard on D&E and since I am
having mobility problems with the hip/feet pain and other complications, the
doctor feels like my high triglycerides are more heredity than what I am
doing.
I will go back in 4 weeks for some fasting labs. I discussed my concerns
about the Januvia and the higher BG. We are going to address that next
visit. The Diabetic Educator I saw yesterday for our check up thinks I am
doing well, but those 160 numbers are too high. On Actos, even after eating
mashed potatoes, my BG didn't usually go up past 125, so...Anyway, I have
concerns about this, and also my doctor wants me to start Neurontin.
I think I am most worried about the statin. I don't know if I have heard
anything good about them.
Nervous,
Kris

I'm on 20 mg of Simvistatin. Have been taking it for 2 weeks (I think) now
with no problems. Was really worried about taking it since I tend to react
badly to meds.

I am taking a generic now, but I have been on 40mg for nearly four
years. No problem. There are many people who are on a statin drug and
have no bad side effects, but get lots of benefit. I have my blood work
done with a full lipid panel every few months and it comes back normal.
I also cut out a lot of fats from my diet too over the past few years.

Kris, before I developed diabetes, I had tris of 1800 and cholesterol in
the high fours.
I have been on lipitor for about eight years. and I take fenofibrate
for tris. My current numbers are 132 for cholesterol and 95 for tris.
I am very happy to be on lipitor because I might have died from heart
problems.
I am one of those that says if there is a pill to cure it, I want it,
Of course lifestye changes helped also.

W O W...I want those numbers! At dx, my choles was in upper 200s and tris
were about 600s. My last A1c in June tris were down a couple hundred
points, and cholesterol about 30 points. Doctor told me yesterday, and it
just was not down enough and doctor said my good chol. is not high enough
and bad is too high also, so, guess I might give this Simvastatin a try, BUT
I am going to start with 20mg not the 40. Called them today, and need to
ease into it since I am nervous about starting new meds. Thanks for the
encouragement though. With the metabolic syndrome, I need to do the
additional things, even though I am trying hard, it's just not going to be
enough this time.
