Penalty for cheating on diet

I was doing well until yesterday afternoon when the munchies got too
much for me. I must have had 50-75 grams of carbs in the late
afternoon. Today FBS and AC lunch numbers were at least 2 mmol higher
than usual and it wasn't until the AC supper that my glucose reading
was anywhere in the ballpark. Goes to show me how important sticking
to the plan is. I didn't think that it would take this long to recover
from my slip. Gives me something to think about.

Is why I have naughty-but-nice low carb munchies in the freezer. I'd
rather cheat on the calorie count than the carb one.

Hi Nicky, what kind of munchies do you use? I am still trying to find
things that seem to be treats but not too bad for the numbers. I guess
that portion control is a big issue too... lol Sally

Among my lowish-carb snack treats are a small Granny Smith apple, a
very small oatcake and plenty of cheese, a small salami sausage, beef
jerky, a square of very dark chocolate, a tin of sardines, an
unsweetened latte coffee, even a mocha if made with just a small
amount of particularly dark chocolate.

If I'm on the hoof and hungry I'll permit myself carbier snacks.
Yesterday when out cycling and hungry I took refuge from a shower in a
small seaside cafe and in a moment of weakness ordered a cheese and
ham toastie. The cafe had been struck by the fashionable supersized
menu items, and instead of a cheese toastie they gave me what I would
call two cheese toasties with a large salad, a whole meal in itself,
despite being from the snack section of the menu.

Well, what can I say? I was probably a bit confused with low BG from
cycling. I ate the whole lot and drank nearly a pint of inferior tea.

Mmmm!

The well known slightly tingly feelings of a high BG began to manifest
in my fingers. I used to have neuropathy in them and they're still
very sensitive to BGs. So I got back on the bicycle and cycled the
nine miles home into a mild headwind. So the high BGs wouldn't have
lasted for long (wasn't carrying a BG meter).

Cheating, but not too often, is part of my diet plan :-)

My fave is something like chocolate brownies or mini muffins, made
with almond flour and flaxseed.
Try these:

Enjoy : )

Thanks for the site. I will definately be trying at least a couple of
these. I had already bought the flax meal and it was just sitting here
waiting for a use. I am  not sure what erythritol is but will look it
up.

I wouldn't consider sardines a treat either, but hey whatever does it
for you.

I was surprised that my glucose readings stayed slightly high for a
good 24 hours, I had even done some extra exercies in there to bring
it down. What a learning experience. Thanks for the help,
Sally

A sweetener - I've only just found some, and haven't used it yet! I
tend just to add Splenda to taste.

I've done that a few times. When ever I do I wait an hour or so then check
my BG. If it is too high, I've found that a piece of cheese will bring it
back down to a reasonable level within an hour or so.

Sally, dont beat yourself up.  We all have slips ups,  The thing is to
try just watch a little more carefully.

I personally dont have deprivation because I portion control and eat to
my meter.

Today, I turned psycho.  I said to myself I want to eat those lime
flavored tortilla chips.  I tested and at 134 I should not have them,
but I decided to beat the system.  I took a glyset, and must have eaten
about six ounces of the chips.  So being nervous about spiking , I take
one mg of amaryl.  Then it is time for my byetta and I ate some chicken
and then took my metformin.  I also had five munchkins.  I tested a
little while ago and from the meds I took, I was 72 so now I am afraid I
am going to have a hypo. so I eat three more munchkins.  The reason I
have the munchkins was because there was a party and I brought the
munchkins.  So now I am sitting here in wait, for what I dont know, but
I think it is going to be a bumpy ride.

I am not beating myself up.  I ate out of a stress related issue and it
did make me feel better, I will pay the consequences I know, but there
is nothing I can do about it now because I already did it.

I will be testing every hour till I go to bed.

Andrew betrayed his discipline in science and left it to construct his own
perverse notion of Christianity.  He did this so that he could always be
right, no matter what.  Ironically what he did was so ill-formed that almost
everything he posts is one way or another in error.  It is likely that this
behaviour carries over into other aspects of his life which does not bode
well for his future happiness or success.  His broken condition is not
irredeemable, so...

You know, Sally, I made a reflecion to my wife only this afternoon -
since you can't easily change human nature (and it is in the nature of
humans to snack on munchies ...) why not provide something with taste,
but with a small affect on the system ?
I'm so smart, I think I'll patent this !  lol
