Smoking

Although I was just diagnosed w/ T2 last month, I stopped smoking last
October 20th.  I smoked for 30 years, so this was no easy picnic.  I had the
worst dizzy spell of my life, and I knew I was toxic.  I am overweight, and
had other hlth complications, and KNEW I needed to stop if I wanted to live.
Hardest thing I ever did, but now almost 6 months later, was the best thing
I could have done.  After about 72 hours, the cravings eased and it became a
mind thing more than anything.  I was obsessed with cigarettes!  My whole
life revolved around when I could smoke, where I could go to smoke, who I
was around that smoked, etc.  I understand how terribly hard it is to stop,
but get support and take it one day at a time...sometimes, 5 minutes at a
time.  For me, my 12 step program saved my life and helped me get through
it.  I still occasionally think about it or sometimes remember the "good
times" smoking and think I want a cigarette, but I play the tape all the way
through and remember how I wheezed just laying in bed and couldn't breathe
to walk across the room (not even including it cost me $120 a month).
Playing the tape through to the end reminds me that I don't want to live
like that again.  I feel better, smell better, my health is better, and  I
have freedom now... and it is a wonderful life!
Best Wishes,
Kris

Kris, thats great to hear you want to keep on living a long and healthy
life.

I absolutely agree with you that giving it up was probably the hardest
thing I ever did. I was going through a depressed period  thirty years
ago and was sure I was going to die of some kind of cancer.  I said to
myself I am so afraid of it, and I still sm oke.  I went cold turkey,
for six weeks I  was nausous and dizzy and didnt realize it was
withdrawal.  I had smoked since I was 13.

I am the worst kind of smoke hater, the reformed sm oker. lol

continued success.  It takes a while to get all that brown gook out but
then it is wonderful to take deep breaths.

Can't disagree with that. Echoes my own experience, without
tapes though.
