I am asking because I was diagnosed as
being borderline for type 2...my Mom had it..I have a friend who takes
insulin shots and I sit for a man who takes 4 a day...
he is in bad shape...my question is a two parter..
!. Why do the doctors want you to take the shot before you eat?
2. Seems people who take insulin do not want to eat? Why not?

Because eating usually raises your blood sugar and you need
something to hold it down. Taking it after you eat does not work
fast enough.

I hadn't heard of that.

Now I don't use insulin so I can only surmise from what I think I know.
People with type 1 do not produce any insulin. So they need it to
counteract those carbs they are eating. If they don't inject it, their BG
will be too high. Some people with type 2 need it for various reasons.
They either don't produce enough of it on their own or they are so highly
isulin resistant, they need a ton of it in order for it to work.
> 2. Seems people who take insulin do not want to eat? Why not?
I have not noticed that. But there could be something else going in. For
instance, I have gastroparesis. This is nerve damage to the stomach
muscles. This means I am rarely ever hungry because my stomach doesn't get
or give off the proper signals. Older people often lose interest in food.
Sometimes their taste buds don't work like they used to. Sometimes they
get depressed or just lose interest in life.

That is not a stupid question. What would be stupid would
be not asking and just injecting whenever a coin toss tells you to.
(But I'm not on insulin, so I can't give you a good answer.)
> 2. Seems people who take insulin do not want to eat? Why not?
I haven't a clue--unless you are talking about Bernstein's
"Law of Small Numbers" Or is that Big Numbers?
Bernstein is an engineer who decided to become a doctor
because of being type one diabetic. He wrote some books
that some diabetics think are absolute nonsense.
Others think they're fantastic. Most of us think they
have good stuff in them but they're a bit extreme.

We prefer diabetic folks receive insulin (or other blood glucose
lowering medications) right before they eat because hypoglycemia (low
blood glucose) can kill quicker than hyperglycemia (high blood
glucose).

Unhealthy people are less hungry.

I didn't help but I am glad others helped where I lacked. I have always been
the resident greeter LOL then when I leave for long periods someone takes
that and does great.
It seems like you are coming along nicely and that is great. Keep up the
good work.

I don't understand a few things, so, some questions:

What kind of sick?
> I have to have at least protein two times a day
Protein shouldn't be a problem. Is it?

I takes time to absorb. But then again so does food. Though food starts
absorbing in saliva on the way in. In training I was told by a nurse many
do not prepare, and just inject immediately prior to eating. I have never
bothered, just in case!
> !. Why do the doctors want you to take the shot before you eat?
I regularly take insulin and do not want to eat. I want to, but I don't, or
I know I shouldn't. Because my BG number is too high already. In my
experience, insulin does make you feel you want to eat. In small
quantities, it doesn't make a differernce. In large doses, its inevitable.
I could factor that in.
