Are black soy beans the same as the black beans eaten by Cubans and many
other Latins?

No. Black soybeans are virtually zero carb, due to their very high
fiber content, along with fat and protein. They're larger and a bit
firmer than black beans.

They're also almost tasteless, unfortunately. In a chili or a soup, I
suppose it doesn't matter much.
My local Whole Foods carries them.

Not the kind you're thinking of, although I think Cubans and Latins
may eat some black soy beans if they are health conscious.:)
Here's a good link that explains what they are. I've bought them in
the cand and also bagged, which require different cooking. They are
tasty and rich in nutrients. I eat them with brown rice, but don't
tell anybody here. LOL I also like adzuki beans, but that's a whole
different story.

This is of important note:
"Soybeans are the only common plant food that contain complete
protein. They also contain carbohydrates and fat, which together with
complete protein represent the three macro-nutrients required for good
nutrition. Soybeans also contain calcium, folic acid and iron. Soy
protein's amino acid profile is nearly equal to that of meat, milk,
and eggs. Because soybeans are cholesterol-free and low in saturated
fat, they are a healthier source of protein than some more common
alternatives."

No. They're a low-carb alternative often used by type 2s who reduce
their carb consumption in order to control their BG.

I don't think so. They are, at least in the Goya (a latino brand) turtle
beans with shite interiors.
Thee ae also fermented soy beans, very salty and used in chinese recipes,
tht I also dont' think are what this article is talking aobut. i have
also never seen them in my grocery stores.

Wendy, I buy them in natural food stores, Priscilla buys them from Eden
foods online she says, and they're also sold online at netrition.com.
