Thank you everybody. Reading the discussions on this support group
has done it. It took a year to get from 7.2 to 6.8. After reading
what people were saying here I went to an endocrinologist and in just
3 months I'm down to 5.7.

Jewel, that's a speedy leap to much better control! This group is a
wonderful resource for type 2 diabetics especially, with so much
collective knowledge and experience between us.
Good on you for making it work for you.

That's awsome, Jewel. What changes did you make that you believe
contributed to your success? Lots of people read and see doctors.
But you took it the crucial step forward; you took action. I'd be
interested to know what behaviors you either incorporated or
eliminated from your lifestyle to make such a marked difference.
Congratulations. You deserve a nice pat on the back and a big way to
go.

What I did was get away from military medicine where doctors and
diabetes educators wanted me to eat 30 - 45 gm of carbs per meal and
saw no need to increase my medications until my bgs were above 180.
My mother has been a type 2 for over 30 years and I have never seen
her eat that much so I started doing some self-educating. I found
this site, learned about glycemic index and found a good
endocrinologist who had no objection to me holding my carbs down to 15
gm per meal and tripled my metformin. You all have provided
inspiration and dietary knowledge far more extensive than the diabetes
educators did.
I am an accountant so tend to be very analytical. I have tested a lot
and kept all kinds of charts and graphs. Where the military doctors
discouraged testing more than once a day by limiting the strips I
could get, the new endo writes a prescription for however many I want
and the military medical gets to pay for them ;-)
I still have a long way to go on exercise and weight loss. Accounting
is a very sedentary line of work but I'm kind of lacking in good
excuses since I have enough equipment to qualify as a gym.

:-) indeed.
I told my physical therapist once that I had accumulated enough bits &
pieces (from various injury & rehab episodes) to qualify as an outpost of
the clinic!
Congratulations on your progress.

It sounds like to found your own way and a great, helpful doctor! Now on
to exercise-but only after the tax season is over:-)

That is fantastic news.
Keep up the good work.
I had several that were between 6.1 and 5.9. Then I kind of slacked
off everything I had been doing and my last one as 6.6. I consider
that fair warning to get back into my old routine and start exercising
more

That's a good result - and a significant improvement. BTW - the A1C test
seems to give an indication of what your BG has been doing for the last
three months or less, so there should be very little connection between
what it is now and what it was then.
