I've been getting my strips from Ebay sellers for about 2 years. I got one
batch that (I think) were incorrectly stored but otherwise it has been a
good experience.

I have a friend who buys all of her strips from eBay because her
insurance company only allows for testing once a day and she wants to
test 4 or 5 times. She's never had a bad experience but does say that
the strips sold on eBay are going up in cost from when she first
started buying them. IMO, the reason the strips are cheaper on eBay
is because some people's insurance allows them to get many and then
they don't test very much. To me, that's slightly dishonest and one
of the reason's insurance keeps getting more difficult to get and
keep. Well, that and the insurance companies own greed.

Kurt, lets call a spade a spade. Getting lots of strips prescribed by a
doctor and then selling them on ebay is insurance fraud and a crime, not
only a little bit dishonest.

Yes, that's exactly what it is. I agree. But you now me, Mr.
Positive, always trying to look for the good in people. :)

That should be "you KNOW me"...

A lot of it is item close outs, overstock items, or pharmacies going
out of business.
By the way, ebay is becoming the ideal way to fence stolen items. They
make a ton of money off it. That is capitalism at it's finest.

uh no, capitalism isn't fencing stolen merchandise. Capitalists call
that a felony.
the people selling stolen merchandise on Ebay are being watched. but
it is usually the high dollar items that get them busted. Like
selling a 900.00+ U$D flat screen plasma TV for only 600.00. That
sets off the warning signs to the investigators.
It's a bitter harder to insurance fraud with the selling of test
strips. Because they are a prescription item and they expire, the
pharmacies do not take them back simply because the user switched
meters or ended up with extras that expired or collected from a
hospice worker (who frequently collects unused prescriptions and
redistributes them, the meds are given to those with an actual
prescription for them, the items like test strips are frequently
sold), or when someone buys surplus and close out and going out of
business items. All of which are only some of the ways people can get
test strips. It is not illegal to sell them on Ebay. nor under any of
those or many other situations would it be considered insurance fraud.

Well it is but in some cases I am sure that people might no
longer have the meter that uses the strips and are left with
something they can't hand back. Aside from finding someone
to give them to or tossing them away I guess ebay is next
best thing. But I'd sell them cheap ;)

it would not be safe to buy syringes on ebay unless they came in the
original sealed packaging.

I've been buying all my sticks there for almost 4 years. I've been
scammed twice by the seller not shipping. Ebay told me to get mucked
the first time, so I did a credit card chargeback, and got my money
back. The second time paypal refunded my money.
Always check for the expiration date. I've yet to see anybody screw
me by substituting expired sticks. Always use paypal backed with a
credit card. Never, never deal with a seller with a PFB with less
than 99% PFB.
Snipe bidding is the only way to bid on Ebay. I use JBidwatcher from
http://www.jbidwatcher.com/ . It is Java based and is freeware. It
has a bit of a learning curve. Each time you launch it, it checks the
homepage for updates, so it keeps you updated all the time.
Ebay makes it hard for bidders to learn about the negative feedback of
sellers, so they give you all the feedback. Who cares about the PFB,
I want the NFB. To read the negs about a seller, enter his name into
http://www.toolhaus.org/ and it will search the Ebay DB for the negs
for that seller. Very handy thing to have.
Goofbay at http://www.goofbay.com/ebay_tools does the same as Toolhaus
and is located in the UK. They used to have tools which really could
dig up the history of anybody. I think ebay forced them to remove
them.
One Touch Ultra sticks are way overpriced. Prices typically go for
about $50 - $60 per 100 sticks. Freestyle and Ascensia sticks
typically go for about the same. You may want to look at Hocks for
these sticks.
Accu chek sticks are the most plentiful, therefore are the cheapest.
Aviva and Compact go for about $40 - $50 per 100. Comfort curve
sticks can go anywhere from about $15 - $50 per 100 sticks. Sometimes
I buy expired cc sticks for less than $10 per 100. Comfort curve
sticks tend to read about 10+ points higher than any other stick I
use.
Don't listen to Loretta.
