I also take painkillers, muscle relaxers and anti-inflammatory for my bad
back. They do not make much change in my BG's.
I take Advil Liqui-gels, 4/day regularly. I take Cyclobenzaprine as needed
for bad pain. I take Hydroco/APAP for really bad pain. Non of these affects
my BG very much, if at all. the last 2 do zonk me out so I usually sleep
good after taking them.

I am afraid to use much medication to relieve distress. There may come
the time I will need them. Many do need the relief.
I prefer to delay this route
My mother was in the pain relief drug route. She had a
minor car wreck and she had many broken bones
while other occupants had bruises. It was fatal
for her which may have been a blessing.
Recreational use of drugs is beyond my ability to
understand.

But how long have you been taking them? It makes a difference.

I apparently misunderstood what you meant by BC. I thought you meant
Blue Cross and they were pissed because they were having to help pay
for all of those.
Then I read other replies and realize you meant BG (blood glucose) and
you were calling it BC. What does that stand for?

Possibly a typo?

You need to contact your doctor and your pharmacist about your situation.

I too took Hydroco/APAP like ANON did and it did not effect my BG at all. It
did make me very sleepy though. That's why I only took it at bedtime.

BC? Do you mean BG? If so it's more likely the pain that is causing the
high BG and not the meds.

It may well be the pain that's sending your BG up. It'll do that.

I was on an extended program of pain killers and anti-inflammatories for an
extended period of time and was on many different kinds. Robaxicet with
codeine, Naprosen, Celebrex and Vioxx. The only one I had any problem with
was Vioxx. I took it for 3 days and BG went off the map. Under the
circumstances I consider myself lucky!

I hope you weren't taking Naproxen, celebrex and vioxx all at the same time.

No, I wasn't. They kept trying to find something that worked. There are
differences in them. I spent a year on Naproxen and had to quit because it
started to cause kidney damage. The worst was the Robaxicet. It turned me
into a zombie. As for the Vioxx, my endo said I was the only person he had
heard of that had BG problems. But, as I said, wasn't I lucky!

Two things can be the probelm. The stree of the pain from the back can
cause elevated bgs and if you are on any kind of steroid tht ccan send the
bgs through the roof.

It's NOT the medications that are causing your glucose to go higher,
it's the medication isn't controlling your pain properly. What pain meds
are you taking? There are various ones on the market that work better
for some then others, you need to talk to your doctor to figure out which
will help control your pain better, which will reduce your glucose.
